Sigmund (2197), Hafrsfjord, Norway Sep 15, 2007 500 ml bottle, bought at Real Foods, Edinburgh (an organic food store, but there’s no mentioning on the label that this beer is organic). The basis of this beer is Williams Gold, with added tayberries and left to mature for a few weeks. Róisin Tayberry Beer pours with a clear pinkish red colour and a decent pale pink head. Strong aroma of ripe tayberries (which appears to be a crossbreed between raspberry and blackberry, much like boysenberries). The flavour is also dominated by tayberries, but the beer is not very sweet, nor very sour, and there are noticeable hops in the finish. The mouthfeel is a bit thin though. Still a nice change-of-pace beer. Fin (3382), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Sep 10, 2007 Bottle courtesy of my dad (and Booths) Poured pinkish and with some head that quickly vanished. Aroma sweet berries. Taste sweeter than I expected but the berries were still very evident, no real bitterness to speak of but fruity and very drinkable. Nuffield (2718), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Jul 17, 2007 Golden rose’ colored, some white head, dissipating. A better aroma than flavor--the berry aroma is gentle and attractive, however the flavor is more dominated by a grassy bitterness that doesn’t do much for me. The palate is stinging with carbonation and that bitterness; the beer itself is rather dry. I wish this had been a complete hit. Bottle. Jukkabro (2981), Tampere, Finland Jul 10, 2007 Golden colored, no head. Aroma is interesting with dominating raspberries, still some perfumy tones there. Thin to medium bodied. Flavor is more sour with raspberries and some dry touch, aftertaste dries even more. Hops balance this beer nicely in the end. oh6gdx (8795), Vasa, Finland Jul 4, 2007 Bottled (thanks GarethYoung). Golden colour, small white head. Lots of raspberry and other berries, a lot of brierhip. Flavour is ainly bitter dry hops and sour fruits. DruncanVeasey (2690), The Penguin’s Arms, Europe, Warwickshire, England Jul 2, 2007 Clear, spritzy and pinkish with a creamy head of froth. Cut grass and stemmy raspberry in the snout. Enough hop bite and biscuity malt to steer it well away from alcopop territory. The sharpness of the berries is quite well-integrated, but pronounced enough to be refreshing. Spoilt by a nasty departing note of shampoo bitterness. Intriguing, but not wholly convincing. omhper (12153), Stockholm, Sweden Jul 2, 2007 Bottled. Clear golden, creamy head. Rosebud aroma. Sweet and fruity, medium bodied. Sort of a dortmunder with undefined fruits added - perhaps raspberry and rosebud. Low-medium bitterness. Peculiar,. but I find it interesting. TBone (6675), Pori, Finland Jul 1, 2007 Bottled
Dark honey golden yellow color (some pink there), not much head. Butterscotch in the nose with unclean grainy, berry-like aroma. Harsh rasberry flavor. Quite simple, like some Belgain low alco rasberry fruit beers. Nothing really special.
