COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Limited to 2009 bottles. A porter, to which rapadou (Carribean unrefined cane sugar from Haiti) was added (but not caramelized rapadou as in the Rapadou Porter) and aged for two months in Virginia Gentleman bourbon barrels. It is a complex porter, to which the flavors of vanilla and a little bourbon have been added as a result of the aging process.

Bottle 1473 or 2009; Limited Release

3/09/2011: Williamsburg Alewerks Brewmaster’s Reserve Bourbon Barrel Porter (Porter Aged in Oak Bourbon Barrels)... Aroma: Dark, smoky chocolate; sugary vanilla. Appearance: Very deep brown color with shiny ruby highlights; beige crown that comes and goes quite quickly. Flavor: Smoky char, boozy alcohol, deeply caramelized sugars; semi-sweet chocolate; lots of delicious charred wood in the finish. Palate: Medium-full body; smooth and milky texture; very nice. Overall: Really damn good brew; I love the char and smoke flavors!

1 Pint 6 Fl oz bottle hared by alexsad06. Thanks Brad! Rating #193 for this beer.

Bottle. 181/2009. Pours a Dark brown color with a slight light tan head. Molasses, roast, and dark chocolate in the nose. Medium/heavy mouthfeel. More roast in the flavor than I thought there would be. Vanilla, roast, molasses, and coffee flavors abound. Robust even with age on it. Smooth. Very nice.

Bottle at BW. Pours deep black with medium creamy head and dct lacing. Notes of chocolate, smoked malt, bourbon, vanilla, and licorice. Big whiskey finish on this medium to fuller bodied sticky porter.

650ml bottle from 2012. Near black with ruby poking through. Light brown head that quickly recedes to a thin ring. Great bourbon presence in the aroma. Chocolate, fruit and coffee hiding underneath it. Coming to this from several bourbon barrel stouts I think I prefer the lack of roast on show here. Bourbon and chocolate come to the fore with barrel integrated well. Very balanced and drinkable. Slight hint of burn occasionally as it finishes. Impressive overall and I’m glad I got the chance to try this.

Tap. Pours opaque black with a tiny tan head that dissipates with some lacing. Aroma is bourbon, dark roasted malts, coffee. Flavor is the same with a strong bourbon presence, some woody astringence, and medium sweetness. Medium body, light warming finish. Smooth and very nice.

Aromas of bourbon, vanilla, cocoa, coffee, and caramel. Black with minimal, tan head. Dry, hot, and a little smoky. Full bodied with low carbonation, and finishes with strong, whiskey flavors lingering.

22oz bomber via trrade. Poured a decent looking medium density pitch black with an average sized foamy darker beige head. Aroma is very nice, notes of bourbon and vanilla dominate along with sweet dark chocolate, pudding, burnt toast and dark fruits. Syrupy full body with average carbonation and a lingering aftertaste that builds nicely along with a touch of heat. Flavor is very good but not as great as the aroma. Notes of sweet chocolate, pudding, vanilla extract, bourbon, barrel, molasses. This is a great beer.

UPDATED: APR 12, 2014 Updated 4/12/2014: nearly black pour, swirls of manila-colored lace stand guard up top. Bourbon + hearty caramel malts start to finish. Caramelized sweetness all the way through; silky malts, roasty, almond concentrate, finishes sweet. Unrecognizable as a porter, but it’s still quite good.

Original rating: Boozy, mediocre bourbon; not enough body or roasty malts. A bit sweet in the middle. Overall: meh.
