COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Limited to 2009 bottles. A porter, to which rapadou (Carribean unrefined cane sugar from Haiti) was added (but not caramelized rapadou as in the Rapadou Porter) and aged for two months in Virginia Gentleman bourbon barrels. It is a complex porter, to which the flavors of vanilla and a little bourbon have been added as a result of the aging process.

2010 bottle A- Body is a dark brown nearly black opaque color. Pours with a 1-2 finger foamy off-white head. Head quickly fades to a thin collar but some lacing is left behind in the glass. S-Caramel and toffee are most dominant in the nose-this is followed by hints of oak and a slight alcohol astringency. T- A lot of alcohol and oak initially. Hints of caramel, toffee, and chocolate in the background. The bourbon really kicks in for the finish and leaves a big alcohol heat as well as a hint of alcohol astringency and roasted malt. M- Medium carbonation and a body with slight alcohol astringency. D- This one is still a little hot and boozy-but has nice complex undertones. Decent and a great bourbon barrel brew to try overall- but nothing that really amazes me. Overall good job done by this brewing co. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 02-12-2011 03:12:52 --

JBPortland (1178) - Portland, Maine, USA - JUN 28, 2015
22oz bottle pours dark brown black with finger and a half of light tan head. Nose has some nice fruity vanilla marshmallow bourbon chocolate, touch of licorice and some dark fruit. Taste is medium bodied, some semi sweet marshmallow, chocolate, light oak, char, a touch of molasses, roasty cacao. Finishes with fairly well integrated vanilla oak and light wood spice, dark fruity chocolate and some nutty licorice. A touch more heft to the body could have improved this, but a solid offering overall.

Dark brown color. Big chocolate fudge nose with modest bourbon. The mouth is super chocolately, fairly sweet with bourbon notes. Very much like a dessert beer. Big sweet chocolate fudge and slightly bourbon finish. A bit too much, but good sharing beer.

My Bottom Line:
Prevalent bourbon oversees this Porter’s caramel and roasted malts for a nearly linear experience.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the darkest brown.
-Bourbon is too intense in the nose and flavor profile for my tastes. The Porter feels overwhelmed.
-The mouthfeel is silky and rich.
-Alcohol is warming throughout.

Bottle.
