jgb9348 (1863), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA Nov 27, 2008 Bottle 1899 of 2007:<br />Nice super hazy brown coloured body with a thinnish tan head. Aroma of strong oak, vanilla, pit fruits and a bit of whiskey - pretty nice! Medium to Full-bodied; Strong assertive oaky flavour up front with a good malt backbone and tons of pit fruits following behind. Aftertaste shows a bit of hop bitterness, vanilla, alcohol and a nice whiskey warming feeling at the end. Overall, nice to try and a good barleywine - large and great flavours throughout! I sampled this 65 cL botle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 08-May-2008, sampled on Thanksgiving, 27-November-2008 at home in Washington. Dogbrick (2348), Columbus, Ohio, USA Nov 26, 2008 Sample at the Columbus Ratebeer gathering at ogglethorp’s 11/20/08: Bottle #1388. The beer pours a murky brownish-amber color with a thin and fizzy beige head that diminishes quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Oaky nose with notes of caramel malt and hops. Rich body with flavors of grainy malt, caramel and bitter hops. The finish is sweet caramel and malt at first but leaves a slow-burning hops aftertaste behind. Pretty good Barley Wine all around. fidel (310), Livermore, California, USA Nov 18, 2008 Dark amber, dark fruit, caramel, molasses, alcohol, little citrus, slight hop finish. nimbleprop (602), Washington, Washington DC, USA Oct 4, 2008 Bottle number 1390 of 2007. 22oz bomber pours a nearly opaque, thick, darks copper brown with a creamy, lacing slightly tan head. Very little visible carbonation. Aroma is excellent and really hits you even when the bottle cap comes off: wood, leather, sugary malt, maple syrup, toffee, lemons, oranges, something also a bit metallic too. Flavor is a very sweet and malty, citrus, grains, more wood. Full bodied, sweet and slightly bitter finish. All in all, very enjoyable. I plan on aging a few bottles to improve the complexity in the flavor. bhensonb (3131), Woodland, California, USA Oct 2, 2008 Bottle from Wine Specialist. Dark amber color with a slight beige head. Aromas of darkish malt, and dark fruit like raisin and date. Medium plus body with creamy carbonation. It is malt sweet, but it is also dark fruit. There is a touch of heat. The hop is significant, so there tends to be balance. There are lots of odd flavors in the finish - leather might be one. Wood might be another. It is a really tasty drink.
