eaglefan538 (2052), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 10, 2008 Bottle from CaptainCougar, shared w/ Bockyhorsey. Bottle 1811/2007. The pour featured a huge peachy amber colored head, great retention. The body was full orangey cloudy in color. The aroma was caramel, big caramel malts, citrus and pine. The flavor followed, alcohol pretty smooth, tons of malt, flavors bordering on tea bags and brown sugar, lots ’o malt! Big mouthfeel. This thing was pretty close to being a barleywine in character. Thanks for the bottle, Tom!
MaltDawg (294), Richmond, Virginia, USA Aug 10, 2008 Off taps at Capital Ale House. Floral citrusy hop aroma with some carmelized malt aroma. Mostly clear orange amber with small white head. Big floral spicey hop flavor backed by moderate carmelized malt sweetness. Medium body with a fruity spicey finish. Very good. Bockyhorsey (1973), Mesa, Arizona, USA Jun 11, 2008 Eaglefan538 shared this brew with me. Bottle 1811/2007. Floral, caramel and barley oat aroma. Cloudy orange color with good head. Sticky sugary fruit flavor. Also plenty of malt that took away from the bitter you get from double IPA’s. Thicker malted body I thought it was a barleywine instead of an ipa. Thanks Brian Butters (313), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jun 5, 2008 Updated: Jun 6, 2008Bottle 393 of 2007. Pours an opaque caramel with a good tan head. Aroma is deceptively malty. Flavor is also tends toward the malty, but with distinct hop bitterness in the finish. Medium full body with moderately low carbonation. Hop profile has definitely mellowed since last year, but I believe it is even more enjoyable now. holdenn (1150), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 29, 2008 5/22/2008: 22oz bottle thanks to Growler for this DLD trade. Popping the cap the underside looks moldy and tarnished yet its only a 2007. Pours a dark amber with a beige head that has a green tint. The nose is hoppy and malty. Lots of aged malts and grassy. Lots of oxidized/aged malt flavors. Sweet and slightly syruppy cherries, candied flavors, hop resin and a touch of alcohol in the finish. This is much more closer to a barley wine than a IIPA but as it warms it becomes pretty enjoyable. Its crazy to think this isn’t that old yet tastes like it has 2-4 years on it. I think it has to do with their capping procedures based on the looks of the cap. Enjoyable still.
