jmuhops (655), Winchester, Virginia, USA Mar 29, 2008 Pours black with a one-finger tan head. Roasted coffee and chocolate aroma with a good deal of toffee. Sweet flavor with a finish of overdone coffee. Alcoholic finish. I might not have called it a porter.
HogTownHarry (3200), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Sep 3, 2008 Bottle (22oz). Shared with blankboy and tupalev, via trade with Immy. Bottle 0530 of 2007. Opaque red-black pour, average frothy light brown lasting head. Molasses and light herbal aroma, moderate alcohol and a hint of sweet coffee. Taste is boozier and sweeter, not much bitterness except from the alcohol. Slick, syrupy body, slightly carbonized in the finish, a little still, bitter, slightly lactic finish. Damned good, if sweet (foreign stout, a little burnt and coffee-ish). JB175 (1327), Holland, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 13, 2008 Darker brown color with a medium head. Aroma is sweet and heavy with hints of chocolate, spices and dark fruits. Flavor is heavy with chocolate, dark fruits, sugar, and a nice porterish quality. Tasty, smooth and overall well done. The best I’ve had yet from these guys. bhensonb (2880), Woodland, California, USA Aug 13, 2008 Bottle from Wine Specialist. Pours dark ruby garnet ending brown with a good tan head. Aroma is dark. Like molasses and coffee and dark fruit. Medium plus body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is tarry molasses, coffee, dark fruit, and chocolate. Although it’s full of malt, the finish is relatively dry. There is something like wood that comes forth in the finish, but this isn’t the oak aged stuff. Gol darny, but it is strong and tasty. One of us should send a bottle to Maria. One of us from the East coast. DocLock (4102), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 22, 2008 Bottle from Squire’s., #0364 of 2007. Pours onyx with 1-finger tan head. Nose is roasty dark malt, heavy molasses, dark chocolate, coffee, hazelnut, cashew, cinnamon. Tastes roasty, with a rich dark malt upfront flavor giving way to dark chocolate, molasses, brown sugar, and nuts. Rich, thick, oily brew. My only beef is that it waters out a tiny bit at the end. This one is amazingly good. MrBendo (983), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Jul 17, 2008 Another thanks to The_Epeeist for bringing me a bomber of this. Pours deep brown with a medium creamy head. Nice lacing. Aroma of espresso, roasted malts and toffee. Rich coffee taste that’s a little bit sweet with the toffee, but very nice overall. I’m assuming that much of the toffee sweetness is from the rapadou. It’s definitely something to try.
