"This is our Coffeehouse Stout amped up to 8% abv and aged for a couple of months in Virginia Gentleman Reserve Bourbon Barrels. Another unique AleWerks beer which blends the rich, coffee-milk stout flavors with those of vanilla and bourbon."

Poured from a 22oz bottle, aged 2 years in my cellar. Pours a thick, inky black topped with a smallish light brown head which dissipates fairly quickly. Aroma is heft dollops of coffee, rich earthy hops and traces of whiskey. Taste is again big on the coffee but with a very dense, rich caramel element, the traces of whiskey in the nose become more noticeable in the taste, with bits of oak and vanilla seeping through. Full bodied and delicious.

UPDATED: OCT 24, 2012 Bottle. Pour is dark brown with a small tan head which quickly disappears leaving spotty lacing. Nose shows bitter espresso notes with a great balance of sweetness behind it all. Light vanilla a d subtle cocoa powder. A touch if coconut comes through behind the bourbon notes. Taste is smooth and balanced between ice coffee and light bourbon. Sweetness balances this perfectly. Creamy mouthfeel with a touch of heat. Damn tasty ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with paperthin beige head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is smokey malt and chocolate. Thin mouthfeel with a sweet vanilla and coffee with a light boozey finish. A good Imperial stout from Williamsburg AleWorks.

750ml bottle poured into snifter. Been after this one for quite some time. Dark pour, good carbonation with no head. Aroma is a tad smokey with hints of charcoal, chocolate and bourbon. Flavor has a hint of milk lactose sugar but doesn’t over power the palate. Very good showing here.

Sample at the Hopsnobbery Collective barrel-aged beer tasting on 8/11/12. Pitch black pour with a medium tan head. Malty nose with lactose, chocolate, roast, vanilla and coffee notes. Malty flavor quickly turning to roasty coffee with vanilla and chocolate in the finish.

In short: A semi-roasted stout with an dominant old cold cup of black coffee flavor. Decent
How: Bottle 22oz. Can’t remember the age, probably around one year of age. Bottle from ksurKin, thanks a lot Ken
The look: Black body topped by a small tan head
In long: Nose is all about coffee and I’d describe it as 1/3 roasted coffee beans, 1/3 a cup of cold black coffee and 1/3 old wet coffee filter. Not the exactly the fresh roasted coffee beans aroma I like in this type of beer. Taste has a solid and crisp malt backbone, like a big of dried black cake (without the chocolate icing). And then there’s coffee and more coffee. As with the aroma the coffee flavor was part roasted coffee beans, par black coffee and par wet coffee filter. Body was a bit lifeless. This tasted like a 5 year old bottle without the oxidation, maybe this is might be a Coffee Imperial Stout has to be consumed as fresh as possible. Usually one year is not very old for that type of beer but my bottle the flavors were kind of muted and lacked vivacity. As straightforward as a coffee stout can be, and not bad at all, but this is the type of beer that is hard to screw-up. Not the beer I was hoping it would be so I’ll have another beer because I always listen to the little red angel on my shoulder and… WHAT?!? It is the white one on the other shoulder I am supposed to listen to!?! That explains a lot…

Dogbrick (11369) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - AUG 13, 2012
Sample at the Hopsnobbery Collective barrel-aged beer tasting on 08/11/2012. Opaque black pour with a medium khaki head that recedes steadily to a film. Small patches of lace. Lots of roasted coffee in the nose, plus some bourbon. Medium to full body with a big roasty character of coffee and malt along with some bourbon and fruit in the background. The finish is mildly bitter coffee and malt. Good beer from start to finish.

Bottle. Black pour, tan head, good retention/some lace. Aroma of cocoa, bourbon, vanilla, roast, wood, coffee. Taste is moderately sweet, coffee, bourbon, baker’s chocolate, light roast. Palate is full, creamy, soft, a bit slick, rich bourbon finish. All around nice, and very drinkable at 8%.
