"This is our Coffeehouse Stout amped up to 8% abv and aged for a couple of months in Virginia Gentleman Reserve Bourbon Barrels. Another unique AleWerks beer which blends the rich, coffee-milk stout flavors with those of vanilla and bourbon."

Picked this up in a trade. Poured into a Dogfish head Glass.

A - Poured with only half a finger head being revealed. The head was a coffee color with lacy bubbles. The beer was dark brown to black and didnít pour too heavy.

S - Smells exactly like WAís Coffeehouse Stout but with big bourbon notes that fill the nose. Thereís a creamy scent as well with lots of vanilla.

T - Wow. Cream, coffee and sugar all in one sip. The bourbon flavor cuts through all of it and tingles your tongue. Itís like throwing a little bourbon in your morning coffee. Nutty / roasty malts are huge in this beer. Very delicious!

M - Silky smooth. I get this great tingle on the tongue. The coffee and cream linger far after youíve swallowed. Not boozy or alcoholic in linger at all.

O - For fans of WAís coffeehouse stout, this is a no brainer for a better but pricier beer. I am finding this very drinkable and delicious and am happy that I have two of them.

22 oz. bottle, pours black with a medium beige / tan head. Aroma of coffee, bourbon barrels, roasted malt and milk / dark chocolate - very complex on the nose. Flavour of rich chocolate, espresso beans, rich roasted malt and great subtleties of the bourbon barrels without dominating. Rich palate with tons of depth - everything is in perfect harmony. The coffee and chocolate feature upfront with subtle barrels accentuating the flavours. Outstanding.

100th rating for this beer! From a bomber into a brandy snifter. Pours dark as midnight at the bottom of a well. Small amount of grayish brown head with dissipates leaving no lacing. Aroma is ung-dly good! Just wonderful! Cherries and bourbon and booze and all that yummy stuff! Mouthfeel is slightly dry and medium bodied. Too much carbonation unfortunately, but still OK. Taste is of light bourbon, dark brown sugar, figs, dates, blackberry (lots of Belgian flavors but no Belgian funkyness). Wow, I really liked this one. Iím also glad itís a reasonable 8%. I have a bottle of Wburg imperial porter and am really looking forward to it now!

(bottle) Opaque black body with a small brown head. Aroma has lots of bourbon notes, a good deal of fruit/berries, vanilla, some milk and sour notes, too. Medium to full bodied, very soft carbonation, smooth and creamy. Flavour has bourbon notes but much smoother overall than I expected; rather sweet with just a mild bitterness; vanilla and sour/milk notes again; caramel; light coffee, chocolate.

Cafe Royale pours a very dark brown. Almost black but it doesnít quite get there. Small amount of head is poured and ends like looking like the picture. The smell on this beer got me quite excited to try it. Nice amount of chocolate, vanilla, roasted malt, and of course the bourbon. Now one of the things I loved about the base beer for this was the coffee. While there was some coffee in the aroma it really didnít scream it. I really wanted a little bit more in there. Still itís a really nice smell here. Now Iíve had this beer twice now. First time I had this was a little sample at my local beer store. One of the things a lot of the reviewers complain about is that the beer is to sweet. The first time I had this beer I kind of agreed with that. It had a very overwhelming sweetness to it. It totally killed all the other goodies in the beer. The next time I had it at home I let it sit for almost an hour. Popped it open and poured. Totally different beer. The sweetness was still there but not even close to the first time I had it. This beer needs time to warm up for all the nice tastes to come out. The bourbon and oak came out more. The chocolate and vanilla popped. Once again though I would of loved more coffee here. Still really good. My biggest complain about this beer might of been the mouthfeel. Maybe they were going for this but hopefully they werenít and it can be fixed for the next batch. But I thought the mouthfeel was a little to watery and thin. This is not the worst case Iíve seen and really it does not get in the way of the goodness of this beer. Iíd just like to see more of a full feeling. More smooth and creamy.
