3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at Park Lane Tavern. Came out with the expected super-black appeal, but less body/head than anticipated. I get a lot of raisin-like fruitiness at first, then a hint of what I kind of took as a bourbon flavor, but is more likely moderately high ABV. Nice dessert beer, with a baking chocolate kick, and enjoyable enough. Wish it had a bit more body. (#4546, 3/27/2012)

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAR 17, 2012 Growler fill from cask at the brewery. Black pour with a short brown ring of foam. Aroma is dominated by the coffee but still brings out dark chocolate, roasted malt, and burnt chocolate cake. Taste is a touch more even. Big coffee and dark chocolate, lots of roasted malts, caramel, burnt chocolate cake and cocoa. Body is slick and almost fully uncarbonated but still slightly chewy and has slight alcohol warmth. Ed’s with more dark chocolate notes, roasted malt, burnt grains, caramel, dark, oily coffee beans and chocolate cake. ****Follow-up to last nights rating**** The chocolate really came out as it warmed and towards the back end. Came across as a really rich chocolate or a rich chocolate fudge. Damn tasty beer! Another kudos to Geoff at AleWerks!
