COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A highly hopped contemporary India Pale Ale. Brewed with copious amounts of Cascade and Amarillo hops, this IPA is balanced nicely with a strong malt body. A great beer for any occasion. Brewed originally as the beer ration for British troops in India, it was preserved with extra hops and higher alcohol for the long sea voyage. India Pale Ale, IPA as it is usually referred to, has become America’s second most popular microbrewery style. If you enjoy a rich, aggressive hop flavor, this is your ale of choice.

From bottle. Light brown with a dense, off-white head and heavy lacing. Chunks floating in it, hopefully yeast. Aroma of a pine forest in a foggy morning dew. Sweet, strong caramel and toffee malt flavor up front with a coating bitter pine hop on the finish, and long lasting astringent linger. Fairly full bodied, filling, slightly syrupy.

amber color; piney hop aroma; a hoppy IPA with piney, citrusy hop flavor and a medium-bodied malt base

12 oz bottle. Thanks Andy Skaggs! Pours a clear light orange with fading white head. Aroma is biscuit, bread and mild hop notes. Flavor is mild, more malt than hops. Slight oxidation, I doubt this was fresh. I’ve had several times, I’ve always thought it was average.

12oz bottle. Pours an amber color with minimal head. Toasty biscuit aroma along with floral hop notes. Resinous bitter hop flavor. Light to medium bodied with mellow bitter finish. Average among IPAs.

Decent East Coast IPA, hits all the right notes without being outstanding in any one category. Still a good quaff.

From a 12 oz bottle at home. Pours a clear gold with a thick off white head. Floral hop nose. Flavors of citrus with a caramel malt backbone. Medium bodied, high carbonation, bitter finish.

FROM NOTES: July 10, ’12 Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass. A: Sweet citrus and some caramel malt dominate the aroma. A: Pours a hazy amber color with almost no foam whatsoever. T: Like the nose, lots of caramelly notes, very rich and deep. Odd for the style but not unpleasant. Some floral hops in the finish. P: Sweet, almost cloying, but offset by the hop bitterness. Pretty heavily bodied for an IPA. With a package of carbonation and some alcohol. O: Not like every other IPA though I think it does fit the style. Very sessionable.

UPDATED: OCT 26, 2013 original rating: 10/20/13 aroma of citrus hops and grain scents. pours a reddish gold, bordering on amber, with white head. tastes of grapefruit, orange rinds, caramel, grains. bitter but no complexity in hop flavor bitterness, boring. palate is nicely carbonated and full. overall, standard east coast IPA flavors, but said flavors are weak. strongest features of this beer are the appearance and the palate. 2nd sample 10/26/13 aroma of tropical fruit, bread. lots of mango and pineapple. pours a reddish gold, bordering on amber, with soapy white head. little lacing. tastes of mango, pineapple, grapefruit, orange rinds, caramel. sweetness comes in bursts near the end of the taste, caramel and cereal. unbalanced in that regard. palate is nicely carbonated but a little thin. overall, a very fruity ipa, lots of tropical fruit and citrus. this brew is better than the first sample I had, likely due to it being bottled 10/22, four days ago.

355ml Bottle as a gift from Virginia:
Sweet with some tropical fruit notes and caramel to begin with followed by some malts and a faint bitterness. There is some pine coming through as well as some light floral notes but the aroma is not the strongest.
Medium amber with a thin, half centimetre head that is frothy looking and holds well.
Sweet malts and caramel as well as a lot of bitterness. There an almost perfume like taste that has some pine and tropical fruits in there too. A little bit of citrus gets through as well and yet more bitterness to round things off with.
Light-medium body with light-medium carbonation as well, a very bitter kick from the hops and some sweetness too.

Definitely a drinkable beer but if I’m honest it’s not a classic IPA nor one I’d be likely to try again although I did enjoy it, I just felt that the bitterness was a little to much when coupled with sweet caramel.
