12 oz bottle courtesy of dkachur-pours a rich light tan head with amber color. Aroma is light/medium malt-cocoa/peat, slight sweetness. Taste is light/medium malt-cocoa/peat (English), slight sweetness. At the finish a slight hint of hops, yeast (&diacytl?). Minimum carbonation. An easy Mild.

12oz bottle. Thick amber-brown color. Very thick bodied, with a strong, pungent amber malt taste. Delicately hopped, allowing the malt to take center stage. The sourness in the beer is very enjoyable and complex. Good example of a malty American Amber Ale.

UPDATED: JAN 15, 2010 (Sample Date: 12/5/2009 Source:Food Lion) Rerate: Light citrusy grassy hop aroma. Slightly cloudy golden amber with small white head.Fairly dry and lightly grainy with grassy hop flavor. Dry moderately bitter finish. Original:12 oz bottle from local Food Lion. Slight carmelized malt nose with a touch of earthy grassy hops and some fruity sourness. Mostly clear deep amber brown with a moderate rocky tan head. Grain with light carmelized malts and grassy hops dominate flavor. There is some other stuff going on that is a touch sour, fruity, cardboardy, and soapy. Body is light with high carbonation. Finish is dry with a lingering grassy bitter astringency.

12 oz bottle. Clear, dark amber with a slight off white head. Mildly sweet nose of caramel, and nuts, somewhat tannic. Earthy flavor, mildly nutty, light tea. Not bad, but not great, either. Light side of medium body with decent carbonation.

UPDATED: SEP 6, 2009 On tap at CAH Innsbrook’s Viriginia beer event. I am currently feeling very irritated with myself because they were also pouring the Cream Ale and I didn’t realize I hadn’t tried that one, so I skipped it. Grrrr. In any event, medium amber, slightly reddish, clear, good head. Light malt flavor, faint caramel, a faint roast note, and some faint floral hops on the finish. Aroma was very faintly floral. Light bodied. Just not much going on here. The roast note is what saves this. Glad mine wasn’t infected, hope they get their sanitation issues straightened out. RERATE 9/5/09 - much the same, but I noticed much more malt body this time out, with a distinctive bready note. Bumps up one point overall.

I purchased a 6 pack from Farm Fresh and got home with much excitement. That quickly ended when I smelled this beer. Then I tasted it and it was very sour and off. I later found out from Grape and Gourmet about the contamination issues. I would really like to try this at the factory.

UPDATED: JUL 9, 2008 Bottle from Once Upon a Vine North in Richmond. Hazy pour is the color of Boston baked beans. Fruity aroma with caramel, toffee and berry notes. Taste is hoppy with berry and sour cherry notes along with a malty finish. A little on the thin side. Some people below seem to be getting sour notes and some are not. I did. Do we have infection issues again?

Update: fewer infection issues in the second bottle from the same sixer. Rating updated accordingly.
