3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
THOUGHTS: One of the best standard brown ales I’ve ever had. Great balance and wonderful transition from sweet malt to citrus hops.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a medium brown with a small, tan head that hearly fully diminished rather quickly. The aroma contained mostly moderate to heavy mil chocolate and Hershey’s syrup; lighter caramel; light citrus hops; and toffee. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and lightly acidic; while the finish was heavily sweet, lightly better and lightly acidic with an average duration. There was milk chocolate, citrus hops, toffee, caramel and roasted malt. The medium body was sort of oily and fairly fizzy with a light astringent finish.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Hampton, Va - on tap at Taphouse on Queens Way. Dark, earthy brown pour, khaki colored head with a decent bit of lacing. Strong chocolate accents to the aroma, a touch of day old coffee, Flavor runs along similar lines with a strong presence of chocolate with some trailing earthy topsoil notes. Thick enough mouthfeel.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Poured into a pint glass. Bottle.
3.75 A: Deep brown-black color. Two fingers of frothy creamy beige head. Retention is about average and a finger of lacing is left.
3.5 S: Big toastiness and nuttiness right off the start. Also some roastiness, chocolate, and a fairly powerful hop presence for the style. Floral and earthy hops.
3.25 T: Dry toastiness is the dominant flavor. Nuts underneath. Again there’s notes of roasted malts, chocolate. Moderate hop bitterness.
3.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Lightly creamy and very smooth.
3.25 D: Good beer, but run of the mill.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Was very surprised how good this one was. Dark brown in color with a very, light tan head. Aroma was a toasted malt, slightly chocolate smell. Taste was a very pleasant malty, toasted nut with hints of chocolate. Nice.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
bottle @ Beer Run / Charlottesville VA --- Clear dark mahogany brown color, one-finger beige head, cobweb lace. Taste is nutty malt that stays solid through a mildly hopped swallow, moving smoothly to a medium finish. A simple brew with too much body, too much strength, too much nut to work well. It feels heavy and unbalanced to me. I can certainly drink it easily enough, but I wouldn’t ask for another.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass.
Aroma- A very nice malt aroma with maybe an earthy undertone.
Appearance- A dark brown ale with an off-white head.
Taste-Has a strong malt flavor with a light bitterness at the end.
Palate- Medium bodied with a well balanced mild carbonation.
Overall- This is a really good beer. Doesn’t appear to have a wide distribution. if you can find it I would give it a try.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark lean copper brown pour with one finger of tan head. Nose is odd, very rustic and grainy with some bready sweetness and caramel notes. Kind of watery and weird/grainy in the flavor. Very earthy and rustic bready/toasted grain malt profile. Very light bodied and lean.
