fredandboboflo (1389), East Setauket, New York, USA Oct 2, 2009 Fresh growler. Aroma of marzipan, other candy-like notes, citrus, pineapple, grass, toffee. Flavor very fresh and hoppy-fruity with strong toffee malt notes that still remain crisp and never sweet. Just great stuff. LilBeerDoctor (1475), East Setauket, New York, USA Oct 2, 2009 Growler from the brewpub. Pours a cloudy light brown/orange with a thick white head. Aroma of citrus, garlicky hops, nacho cheese Doritoes. Reminds me of Smuttynose IPA. Flavor of rich caramel and bready malts, garlicky, spicy hops. Tons of flavor and spices here that gives this a full-bodied palate. Really reminds me of super fresh Smutty IPA. This is a top-notch IPA. Very enjoyable.
8/4/9/4/17 [4.2/5] JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jan 31, 2009 Tap at the brewpub and a later growler as well. Mmm, mmm, now we’re talking. Very, very cloudy deep orange coloured beer. Bright sweet hop aroma. Lots of bright orange/grapefruit peel and a little bit of apricot fruitiness as well. Quite sweet with a low of resinousness. Fruity and tropical with the malts just peeking out from behind. Papaya and mango and a rich creamy body that somehow manages to stay lean and balanced. There is a touch of zesty/herbal quality on the back that really sets off the fruity notes that are up front. No complaints from this hophead! notalush (2623), Denver, Colorado, USA Jan 26, 2009 Thanks to JoeMcPhee for sharing - lightly hazy copper, with a soapy lace - explosive, tangy grapefruit hoppiness in the nose - a lot of pine and herbs - earthy hop character - more of the same in the flavor - not much to say except it is nicely balanced between malt and potent hops - it’s got the ineffable greatness that more awesome ipas have, so I will not even attempt to explain how good it is. goldtwins (4078), Nesconset, New York, USA Jun 23, 2008 Growler supplied by kmweaver. Poured a hazed orange color with a small off-white head. The aroma was great with fresh hop forward notes. Citrus and sweaty hop aromas with a sweet malt base that pokes out just enough to give balance. Nice citrus hop flavor with hints of pine. Long mild-moderate bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied. miketd (679), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Jun 17, 2008 From a growler supplied by kmweaver and his lovely wife. Thanks! Pours copper/orange with a wispy, white head. Aroma of sweet, citrusy fruit and fresh hops. Quite bitter but with good malt balance. Medium bodied and smooth. kmweaver (2389), Sebastopol, California, USA Jun 16, 2008 Draft @ Willi. Pours a murky, pulpy, bright orange-amber color; thin off-white head with patchy lacing. Juicy, resiny passion fruit and orange hoppiness in the aroma; very soft edges, but an enormous amount of chewy, fresh hops in the nose: some red fruits and caramel underneath. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: amazingly dense, pulpy, hop-forward character (oranges, tropical fruits); nice levels of carbonation; zesty, tongue-numbing bitterness; very generous hop character, and ridiculously tasty and dense and hoppy for under 7% (listed as 6.8% on the main board). This tastes like a much much larger beer, but without the slightest show of alcoho; complex red fruits and soft sugar lurking underneath. Hugely successful and impressive. Lengthy finish: some lingering tongue-numbing orange and tropical hops, breadiness, and well-toasted malts. OldRaspy (292), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Jun 9, 2008 On tap at the brewpub. A cloudy amber with a small white head. Aroma was all hops citrus and piney. Taste those hops with a touch of malt. Great beer.
