3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Amber coloured beer. Aroma is quite sweet and hoppy. Light tropical fruit and citrus on the nose over a sweet maltiness. Flavour shows a fairly low hop flavour, with more sweetness than I was expecting. On the back it is fairly bitter though. Citrus and cherry fruitiness, but there isnít a whole lot of cohesion. Itís interesting, but they can certainly do a lot better.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at brewpub. Pours orange with a small head and heavy lacing. Aroma of fragrant flowers, with spiciness and cut grass. Flavor starts with sweet lemonade-citrus, but quickly moves into spicy, herbal accents. There was ginger and orange peel in there. Finishes hop-bitter with slightly harsh and muddy citrus flavors. Not balanced particularly well. Overall, this is a solid brew by a fantastic brewpub. Yet I must say that I was expecting more . . . or was it that I was expecting perfection?

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz serving at the brewpub and from a growler. Deep amber in color, a bit murky, a small lasting head. Aroma of alot of malt and a decent amount of citrus hops, but not as much as I would expect in an IIPA. Taste is malty for an ipa, caramel, dark crystal malts, with a good amount of earthy resiny citrus and pine. This is a bit more malty than I usually like IIPAs, but it was still an enjoyable beer.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Growler at Paul’s (Thanks hophead75!) Pours a deep hazy copper with a tan film of head. Sweet fruity nose, a bit resiny as well. Seems slightly estery and catty. Slick warming mouthfeel. The flavor has an earthy malt character, a brief twiggy note and a honeyish sweetness. Has an estrery note, almost banana-ish for a quick second before a resiny/catty bitter hop finish comes in to finish. The flavor don’t mesh very well, and it’s a bit sweet overall.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thanks to Hophead75 for sharing this growler. Pours a deep dark copper/amber with a thin lasting head- some lace. Aroma is a bit fruity, ok pine hops, thick sticky dark crystal and caramel malts, and a hint of chocolate malt. Flavor is a bit more pronounced with hops- citrus, a bit of resin and some pine with a slight solvent and harsh bitterness. A bit too much malts all around for a DIPA, and not quite as good as many other DIPA’s from Willi, but a solid offering overall.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Had a dark, ruby color. The aroma had more pine than their other IPAs. The alcohol was well hidden and the flavor was sweet.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Enjoyed a 12 oz glass of this beer on draught at the brewery. I like the fact that Willimantic used some locally grown hops in this beer along with Magnum, Challenger, and Goldings. It is actually nice to see an Imperial IPA that does not use the 4 Cís, and makes for one, interesting, and flavorful brew. This beer pours to a slightly hazy, burnt orange color, with no head, and a soft carbonation. The nose on this beer is excellent, with spicy/flowery aromas of hops, paired with some good caramel malt aroma, and hints of peppery alcohol. The palate is soft and fat on the tongue, with good pale and sweet malt flavors, paired with some estery fruit, and some fruity hop flavors. Festive Ale finishes with more malt, fruit, and hops up front, then ends with a pleasing, tangy/spicy hop bittereness that lingers, and light warming alcohol. Lots of malt and hop character going on in this one.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Hazy yellowish amber with a decent white head. Rather mild nose, biscuit, citrus and light pine. Nice body - thicker than usual for the style. Very well balanced, but not really bitter enough for an IIPA. Still, a nice drinker.
