Commercial Description:
Brewed as a tribute by our brewer to his former brewery (not mentioning any names...) and the brewing philosophy he developed from working there, this beer defies traditional style guidelines, making it un-classifiable as an IPA or a Strong Ale. It’s pretty much the best of both! Lightly malty in the aroma and first sip with a spicy hop follow and alcohol warmth finish. If “fizzy and yellow” describes your normal beer, walk away from this one - save it for someone that can appreciate it. Cheers! 71 IBU

Larry’s "like" to what he helped brew at Stone, Peachy dark with a minimal crown, no aroma. IBU 70. Unfiltered. Medium plus mouthfeel, carbonation above average but not as overcarbonated as most of their lineup. Quite drinkable, but not much of a resemblance to Arrogant B, a 1.5x IPA.

On tap at brewpub

This was my primary reason for wanting to visit. The new brewer had experience at Stone so it was going to be interesting to taste his take on a certain keystone beer there. I’ve yet to rate any of the various Arragant Bastards but if they are anything like this I am going to pick them up early in the new year once the cellar has thinned a bit.

Aroma / Appearance - A deep red semitransparent body was tickled by a whitish short lived head. Once again the glass was almost full to the point of overflowing which made it worth every penny of the $2.25 I paid. Cherry, nuts and vanilla competed with an aggressive hoppiness for attention. Simultaneously hoppy and malty it was different than your typical West Coast hop bomb.

Flavor / Palate - A strong oaky background set the stage for the bitter chocolate, cool whip and spruce. For an 8.0% beer it tasted pretty mellow. The body was on the thin side but the flavors made up for the weakness there. It tastes somewhere between an IPA and IIPA; aggressively hopped but not so over the top your tastebuds go numb.
