3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Dogbrick (6178) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - SEP 13, 2010UPDATED: NOV 18, 2010 Sample at the brewpub. Pours a mostly clear dark amber color with a medium off-white head that burns away steadily. Sticky rings of lacing. Piney hops aroma with touches of malt. Medium body with a strong resiny and piney hops character offset slightly by sweet caramel malt. The finish is hoppy with a lingering bitter aftertaste. Decent beer overall.

Sample on tap during Ohio Brew Week. Clear amber color, minimal white head, some bubbles on the side of the glass. Herbal floral hop flavor - more than I expected for a "double red". I guess the only way to make a good red is to amp up the hops (a la Green Flash’s). Light bitter taste, like crisp carbonation. Dry finish. Decent, but not my favorite thing
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Nephilium (1164) - Ohio, USA - JUN 18, 2011
(Growler pour) This starts with a nice blast of grapefruit aroma, and pours a hazy reddish-amber, with just a dusting of head. Nice caramel undertones, with a big hop blast. Slightly slick mouthfeel, and easy drinking, with the alcohol really well hidden. This is a nice solid IIPA.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Foxbush (1003) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - MAY 15, 2011
This is another ale tasted while on a Mother’s Day trip. The orange colored ale had no head. The higher alcohol was noticed but concealed well. It was the best of beers tasted. The IPA was well balanced. The service was great. This will be a stop over in the future.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 grebs (71) - Ohio, USA - AUG 10, 2009
This is pretty good stuff! Aroma of floral hops, taste of floral hops. Body is medium to thin but the beer hides its alcohol decently well.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 TheOrange (479) - Kent, Ohio, USA - JUL 26, 2009
Swung in for a sampling and found that I had not rated this in the past. This has a deep red/mahogany pour with a medium light brown head. The aroma is sweet floral hops. The taste is strong bitter piney hops. The beer is med bodied with a sharp clean finish. Good Beer.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Brigadier (2275) - Bloomington, Indiana, USA - JUN 17, 2009
On tap at brewpub
The final tap of the afternoon/evening was a beer that I have not seen offered in the last year. I hope it enters the regular rotation; this is a solid imperial red for a brewpub that caters primarily for the local audience.
Aroma / Appearance - Caramel red in tone it is bubbly and mostly opaque. Strong pine, resin, roses or tulips, and hay make up a very hoppy blend of aromas. Despite not being as aggressive as many West Coast style Imperial IPAs it is not subtle.
Flavor / Palate - Rosy pine, dried oak, and the resin that is used to wax bowling alley lanes meld into a smooth and sweet texture. Well balanced this batch might have the advantage of being only 7.5% instead of 9%. Without being over the top it has every key aspect you could ask of something passing itself off as a "Double Red".

GABF 2007: Poured a clear copper color with an off-white head. The aroma had a good citrus and piney mix with a balanced caramel malt underneath. Malt started the flavor with grapefruity hops taking over from the middle. Malt finished up the flavor. Medium body.
