ogivlado (3036), Zagreb, Croatia Jan 24, 2006 Canned(450ml). -clear pale yellow coloured, medium off-white head, low carbonation, sweet malty aroma with slight corny and mild hop notes, mild bitter finish, nice easy drinkable lager GregClow (2493), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 25, 2008 Can. Light, bright golden with a large rocky head that gives way to a thin layer of lace. Aroma is clean and malty with some pleasant floral hops. Medium bodied. Flavour of moderately sweet and slightly grainy malt with a subtly hopped finish. Not a complex beer by any means, but it’s actually not too bad - comparable to some mainstream Euro-lagers, and much better than most North American light lagers. Frits (3), Big Bay, South Africa does not count Nov 22, 2006 Surprisingly good for a draught from a can. Good aroma. Appearnce varies, as the head collapsed quite quickly. Flavour is verry pleasing though. SudsMcDuff (1691), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA Nov 16, 2006 Pours a pale yellow....nice head....medium standard lacing....corn, rice, popcorn like smell....not bad, not good....average at best, not that disagreeable, but try avoid...also had near africa’s smallest pub and some black guy sold my mom a bead bowl for a 100rand..beer came with entertainment...that and sand.. MoritzF (4859), Bochum, Germany Apr 11, 2006 (can) Pale golden coloured hue with yeast particles and a fluffy white but diminishing white foam. Dusty and only slightly sweet malty aroma with a yeasty fruity (lemon) note and a shy touch of herbal hops. Light bittersweet flavour, light body, moderate carbonation. Light malty base, smooth mouthfeel, slim and short slighty bitter finish. Definitely drinkable clean but boring Lager. bridge (659), Sydney, Australia Mar 14, 2006 That little symbol under the word Draught on the can actually contains the word Reinheitsgebot, so you’d hope to be getting pure malt. My 200ml sampler can (thanks Per) poured golden yellow with a short lived fizzy head. Some citrussy hops in the aroma, along with some malt and alcohol that mixed together and made me think of scotch (weird for a pale lager I know). On tasting it’s okay, some bitterness and a soda water like dryness initially, but it has a sweet finish. As far as lagers of the premium/pale variety go, it’s not too bad really. It goes to show that it makes a difference to go with the natural ingredients. altonbrownd (1862), Amsterdam, Netherlands Feb 10, 2009 Had a number of these in Etosha. Golden body with rocky head. Malty and sweet nose. Taste of malts, some lemon. Hoppy in the finish with slight bitterness. Great with the braai. phishpond417 (1861), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Sep 27, 2009 I’m sad as this is the last of the African beers, but glad I got to share them in the company of my friends: Poured a dull yellow colour with a large white head. Aroma has the corn and malty notes, but a decent amount of carbonation keeps this brew lively and fairly refreshing. Mildly bitter hops throughout. Finishes with slight grassiness. Thanks again John for the beers, it was fun!
