3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Gravity pour at Brewmasters Theatre of Beer, Clapham. Pours a murky dark coca-cola colour. Aroma has dirt, light dank hops and sweet toffee. Medium body, low carbonation. Mostly maltiness - toast, peat, bread dough. There’s some booze too and treacle and liquorice, dominion and burdock... Not much in the way of citrus hoppiness. Thin too. Not great.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
330ml bottle. Pours black with a red tinge, foamy tan head leaving some lacing and aroma of roast malt with peppery citrus & pine hop. Sweetish dark malt, treacle & raisins flavour, plus a juicy orangey hop bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel, full bodied, soft carbonation, dry bitter finish. Very drinkable black IPA.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark brown, big nose, fruity and with a lot of rich malts. Deep, rich...to me an imperial porter but a really good beer.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Aroma: smoked flavours, salted caramel malts. Appearance: dark brown, large frothy head, quickly disappearing though. Taste: medium sweet. Palate: some bitters coming up, burnt flavours, maybe some licorice?. Overall: decent Black IPA, quite smoky aroma. Pint at the Cock Tavern, London.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cask at The Gun winter beer festival. Pours black with a small beige head which leaves nice lacing. Nose is a hop fuelled fest of passionfruit, pine and zest. All about the hops here. Plenty of earthy notes covered in big tropical fruit and piney hops. A great zesty finish with the bright fruit focus. Surprised me this. Very good

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at home from BEER:shop St Albans. Pour is dark caramel / red with a lasting light tan dense head. Aroma is liquorice, roast caramel, melanoidin, leather, light fudge. Some alcohol presence in the nose but it is under control. Hops in the nose are secondary but piney / earthy in nature. Flavour is initially malt forward with caramel, smooth roast, medium sweet dark sugar, then the hops kick in with pine and hints of grapefruit citrus. Palate is thick and slightly oily, but moderate carbonation lifts it off the tongue. The is a big bold ballsy black IPA.
