3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Appearance: Opaque black color with a nice lasting tan head. Good lacing.
Aroma: Good intensity with grapefruit hopps, chocolate, coffee and some tropical notes.
Palate: Medium + body. A bit sweet and a fine bitterness. Average carbonation.
Taste: Some weird harse notes in the flavor. Grapefruit hoppy, pine, chocolate, coffee, some roasted malt and tropical on a deep malty back.
Overall impression: The harse notes in the flavor destroyed this one a bit.

33cl bb NOV 2017, on a bulky idiosynkrasie airlift, ta! - Malt-dominated, treacle & liquorice infused old ale of a Black IPA, adding rustic Old World floormalt accents to a generally PoMo beer style. The Pacific Jade hop exotics seems to have been absorbed into the rich and dense fruitcake body, settling for dried orange rind. Massive depth of malt character and liquorice notes not quite my style - still oddly satisfying when sipped.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A pitch black beer with cola brown tints in the light with a thick latte coloured head. A light, but complex aroma, there’s a dominant hop element, grassy and piney, then a rather smoky, liquorice malt aroma that brings in a hint of raisiny dried fruit. Medium dry mouthfeel. The taste carries on from the aroma. A big pithy citrus hop flavour, grassy and piney, then the bittersweet malt flavour comes through, smokey and woody, coffee and liquorice, dark caramel and raisiny dried fruit. The finish is long and lingering with all the complex flavours hanging around! Bottle from the Maris Otter Beer Festival 2015, Norwich.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Gravity pour at Brewmasters Theatre of Beer, Clapham. Pours a murky dark coca-cola colour. Aroma has dirt, light dank hops and sweet toffee. Medium body, low carbonation. Mostly maltiness - toast, peat, bread dough. There’s some booze too and treacle and liquorice, dominion and burdock... Not much in the way of citrus hoppiness. Thin too. Not great.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
330ml bottle. Pours black with a red tinge, foamy tan head leaving some lacing and aroma of roast malt with peppery citrus & pine hop. Sweetish dark malt, treacle & raisins flavour, plus a juicy orangey hop bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel, full bodied, soft carbonation, dry bitter finish. Very drinkable black IPA.
