Our first beer and we have high hopes that one day our pump clip will become as recognisable around Windsor as the Guard’s bearskin hats that the design it is based upon. Guardsman Best Bitter is a copper-coloured session strength ale with a tangy taste, smoothed by oak conditioning and a really fresh hop. It is brewed with premium Maris Otter pale malt and a blend of Pilgrim, Styrian Golding and Fuggles hops.

A fruity aroma with a faint metallic twang which thankfully doesn’t run into the taste. Initial red fruit followed my shortbread and maltose with a subtle bitter finish. This is a well balanced beer with medium body and carbonation. Amber in colour with a temporary foamy head and plenty of carbonation continuing to rise. Long leathery-pepper finish

Cask at the Greenwich Wetherspoons. Pours hazy amber with a creamy off-white head. Fruity aroma. Flavors of light roast caramel, citric fruit and a little wood. Moderately bitter finish. With time wood becomes oak. Sort of.

Small offwhite head. Brilliant amber body with carbonation. Earthy caramelly toffee aroma with cinnamon notes. Dry-sweetish earthy caramelly toffee taste with spicy salty notes. Mid-bodied. Mild mouthfeel. Dry earthy cinnamon aftertaste lingers. Traces of sandalwood, too. A bit lacking in complexity and freshness, but far from bad. (0.5l bottle, beermerchants.com.)

Bottle @ J&C, Friday session, 2011. Thanks. Pours clear golden with a small bubbly white head. Nose is hoppy and fruity. Harmonic. Flavor is fruit , exotic mango and grape - very fresh. Mild and quite simple - yet very tasty!
