Our first beer and we have high hopes that one day our pump clip will become as recognisable around Windsor as the Guard’s bearskin hats that the design it is based upon. Guardsman Best Bitter is a copper-coloured session strength ale with a tangy taste, smoothed by oak conditioning and a really fresh hop. It is brewed with premium Maris Otter pale malt and a blend of Pilgrim, Styrian Golding and Fuggles hops.

Cask at Dean Swift. It pours hazy amber, with a thin off-white head. The nose is nut, caramel, wood and toffee. The taste is wood, nut, leather, leaf, dust, light smoke and caramel, with a decent dry-bitter finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Not bad, just unexciting.

Pours amber colour with minimal head. Both aroma and flavour have malts, fruits and grassy hops. Highly drinkable but nothing special.

Pint at the Old Manor in Bracknell. Small but attractive head over an amber brown beer. Smooth, bitter and slighlty oakey, with a little hops. Aroma is hoppy and a touch fruity. Its quite reasonable and the sweetness takes precedence over the bitter after a while. Quite a decents Berkshire LocAle.

Cask (Harp, RBESG Friday)
Beautifully rich bitter. Malty body. Great full beer. Doesn’t burst outside the bitter formula, but the oak aged aspects give a lovely woodiness to it. Beautifully subtle hops, clearly there, but not punching you in the face. Subtlety done very well.

Cask at Wenlock Arms - Aug 20 2011. Deep amber, clear, nice lace after a solid creamy/foamy beige head. Sweet, floral and moderately nutty aroma, some alcohol. Taste follows, more floral herbal bitterness, better balance. Chewy, a bit astringent - some dry appleseed bitterness in the finish. Good.
