Our first beer and we have high hopes that one day our pump clip will become as recognisable around Windsor as the Guard’s bearskin hats that the design it is based upon. Guardsman Best Bitter is a copper-coloured session strength ale with a tangy taste, smoothed by oak conditioning and a really fresh hop. It is brewed with premium Maris Otter pale malt and a blend of Pilgrim, Styrian Golding and Fuggles hops.

Copper, clear, no head; biscuity malt and earthy hops; a little nutty; whilst the dry, moderately bitter finish is softer than most, presumably down to the oak, you’d be hard pressed to describe this as anything other than an ok trad bitter.

Cask. Clear light amber color, no head. Smell and taste malts, lightly caramel and a bit metallic and softly bitter. Meh.

Cask @ Hart & Spool, Borehamwood. Hazy deeper amber coloured with a frothy head. Crisp, medium bodied, with a mild pleasant general fruitiness with citrus orange involved.

Cask HP at The William Morris Hammersmith as Windsor and Eton Guardsman. Dark orange brown, still, hazy, small foamy beige head. Aroma is light and airy, some lavender soap and simple sugars. Body is smooth, light with tingly carbonation. Taste is fairly light and watery, sodawater, thin bready malts, tangy drying flowery hops. From the colour of this you’d assume plenty of supporting malt, but it’s a bit lacking in the malt department. Quite a decent hop presence but watery and lacking a little oomph. Alright and drinkable, but not moreish.

Lite sur. Som Pedigree. Undrar om det var ett gammalt fat? Ingen favorit. Men alltid trevligt med lokal öl.

Medium amber with thin lacey head and very soft carbonation. Light malty nose, bubblegum and spice. Nice malty taste with lots of biscuit, caramel, grass, quite sweet. Nice oily palate. Needs more bitterness in the finish, but overall a tasty pint.

Cask@gallows. Amber. Bready malts, herby earthy hops, english bitter yeast nose. Pretty strong on the herbal/green leafyness. Med bodied, soft, caramelly autumny leafy finish. Decent full flaviured caramelly, slight toffee bitter.

Cask pint at Wetherspoons, Victoria Station, London. Copper colour, low off-white head. Moderate aroma, malts, toffee and a hint of fruity hops. Pleasant flavour, decent hops with a hint of blackcurrants, malty and nutty notes too. Good beer.
