Our second beer is Knight of the Garter, launched on June 14th to coincide with the Ceremony of the Garter at Windsor Castle. It is a straw-coloured Golden Ale (3.8% ABV) easy summer drinking with a distinctive fresh citrus hop aroma. As with Guardsman, it is brewed with premium Maris Otter pale malt from a traditional floor sweeping. Again we are using whole leaf hops – English Pilgrim in the copper and a blend in the hopback, including American Amarillo with their gorgeous orangey aroma.

Had from a cask at Browns in Windsor. Slightly hoppy. A bit tart on the finish. Not a bad beer.

(cask) Golden, slightly hazy, with a white, quickly disappearing head. Aroma of honey, cereals, hay and straw. Some lemon notes as well. Light to medium bitterness. Light body, a bit watery, soft carbonation. Sessionable and certainly not bad. Could have more fruit though.

Cask at the Union Tavern - Westbourne Park, London. Courtesy of Paddy during the W&E event. Pours clear gold with a light, white foam head. Bright and citrusy hops in the nose. Light sweet flavor with some grapefruit, straw, biscuits, citrus rind. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Great condition. Balanced finish, more dry and lightly rindy citrus, basic pale and biscuity malt sweetness. Just what you want from a golden ale.

Bottle. Golden with a small head. Bitter with some citrus and a bitter finnish. An amazing amount of complex flavours with a lot of strength considering its relatively low ABV.

Clear gold beer, good white head. Light semi dry palate. A fair bit of pale malt in which a little citrus hop resides. Light dry finish with a very light touch of bitterness. Weakest of the W&E beers.

Drinkable and nicely balanced ale with a real biscuity malt character and a hint of citrus. Decent.

Bottle at home courtesy of Theydon_Bois, cheers Colin! Honey blonde with temporary fluffy cream head that soon collapses to a lacing. Peppery citrus nose. Sweet biscuit malt up front with lemon and passion-fruit following in behind. Medium carbonation. Touch of yeast esters and English hop bitterness.
