Clear deep amber-brown with a thin off-white lasting head. Sweet smell of caramel malt and toffee with some dark fruit. Medium oily flat body. Tastes of sweet caramel malt, light toasted malt, some light fruitiness with a clean woody bitter finish. Sweet and easy to drink. Another great one from Winster Valley

Rochdale Beer Festival 2015. Dark, dirty amber in colour. Has a sweetness in its nose, fused with some darker malts which are also evident in its taste, but not a very stated ale.

Cask conditioned at Fleetwood Beer Festival ’15. Hazy brown with white head. This had a peachy note in the malts with quite a distinct sweetness. Fruity throughout along with an earthy note. Average.

Bottle from the Cartmel village shop. Appearance - dark amber with a decent head. Nose - honey and wholemeal bread. Taste - more wholemeal bread but no honey this time. A little though. Palate - medium bodied with a crunchy texture and a dry malty finish. Overall - nicely balanced bitter with enough elements to keep it interesting.

Gravity cask at the Wandsworth Common Halloween Beer Festival - Le Gothique, London. Pours clear, rich gold with a frothy white cap. Light bready malts in the nose with touches of leaves and dry fruit. Light sweet flavor with bitter grain husks, dried and lightly leathery fruits, dirty leaves. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Bitter earth and leaf finish with further dried fruits and mild bready malt sweetness. A touch too bitter at times.

Smells like the butterscotch hops that are so typical in many English bitters. Unfortunately I am not a fan. There is a little sweetness but the finish is bitter, and not the nice kind.

Cask-conditioned at the Cumbrian beeriodical, Seven Stars, Bristol June 2013. Amber in colour with a decent, off-white head. Sweetish bitter, with caramel, bready malts and a touch of fruit. Ok.

Direct from the brown horse at Winster, a dark amber colour, a strong bitter flavour with a hint of fruitiness
