Commercial Description:
Cockney Imperial Stout was born at the request of Mike Wilson, publican and proprietor of Cockney Pub in Århus. Mike talked Niels Jørn into brewing a whole batch of a rich, dark, very strong stout exclusively for his pub. The stout went like wildfire, and 800 litres were sold from a single tap in the small pub in just 5 weeks! Rumors of this amazing stout spread to the rest of the country, convincing Niels that this smooth, black beer should be a constant in the WinterCoat selection. It, like many of WinterCoat's strong beers, goes down deceivingly smoothly.

Poured a very dark ruby color with a medium tan head. Big roasted coffee aroma. Mild ash and some hoppy notes. Flavor matched the aroma with roasted malt, coffee and some hops. Nice hop finish.

The first beer at KP’s cellar tasting that I tired and may well be the lowest alcohol. It poured almost black with a dark tan head. I struggled to identify the aroma it had a sweet malt with a slight hint of coffee. It had a flavor almost like espresso but sweet. A nice smooth body and texture for this beer. I beer I could not completely figure out but I did figure out that I liked it.

The thanks go out to whoever brought this to kp’s cellar party. A thick tan head forms easily over htis black brew. Peaty roasty aroma from dark malts dominate. Bitter flavor that follows into a long finish, with just enough underlying malt sweetness to hold this one together nicely.

Black with a tan head. Fruity, slight roasted nose. Malt and alcohol in flavour mostly. Some liquorice and coffee too. Acidic finish.

Pours black with a small dimminishing tanned head. Nice hoppy smell. Low carbonation. Aromas of coffee and malts.

Bottled (thanks henrikb). Black colour, with yellowish brown, longlasting head. Lovely roasted malt, licorace and caramel in aroma, with weak hints of ash. Flavour is strong roasted malt, smoke from wet wood and ashes. Also some licorace and black coffee noteable. Especially the aftertaste gets wetwood smokeish. Very nice Imperial stout, which hides it’s 8.4% very well. Slightly watery palate, which is among the only weak details in the beer.

Bottle. Loats of roasted malt and smoky/ashy characters in here. Full bodied and surprisingly little evidence of the 8.4% alcohol. Full, roasted bitterness in the finish, very nice stuff.

Bottle from the Madsberg and enjoyed in my Expedition snifter: Opaque with a fizzy tan head and some lace. The aroma is a tad weak but could detect a roasted and chocolate malt character along with some smoke and coffee. (The smokey notes become more dominate as it warms) Additionally some dusty yeast and walnut esters and a bit of pepper shows as well.

The taste is a smooth combination of both sweet and burnt malt equally supported by bitter hops and coffee. I get some ripe fruit (mostly prune) and muddled spice towards the finish. The aftertaste is a muted bittersweet chocolate. The feel is lively and sharp with a moderately dry finish. The alcohol is very wel hidden in this brew, bonus point.

Overall a good sweet stout but hardly matches the finer examples of an Imperial. If it was not for the ABV, this would not be considered an Impy at all.
