Commercial Description:
Cockney Imperial Stout was born at the request of Mike Wilson, publican and proprietor of Cockney Pub in Århus. Mike talked Niels Jørn into brewing a whole batch of a rich, dark, very strong stout exclusively for his pub. The stout went like wildfire, and 800 litres were sold from a single tap in the small pub in just 5 weeks! Rumors of this amazing stout spread to the rest of the country, convincing Niels that this smooth, black beer should be a constant in the WinterCoat selection. It, like many of WinterCoat's strong beers, goes down deceivingly smoothly.

Tap at Ginger Man. Aroma of diaper and a little chocolate. Flavor of roasted malt, tart fruits, very tart finish with some of that diaper. It would appear as though this were infected, perhaps slightly older than the beer in others’ ratings where sourness seems to be creeping in.

Tap Ginger Man. Pretty awful beer. Aroma is sour, flavor is sour. No real redeeming qualities

On tap at The Ginger Man. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is medicinal with some sweat and odd sour notes. Very off-putting....the flavor doesn’t get any better--sourness, still sweaty, acidic, and chalky. I didn’t really get any roasted notes. I imagine that the sourness in this beer was intentional which just didn’t work out well for it. Palate is boozy, thick, and medicinal. Yuck. 4/4/4/3/9 (2.4)

Sampled at the Bavarian Lodge, Lisle, IL. Poured a black/brown hue with a light tan, foamy head and clingy patches of lacing. The aroma was some roastiness with an off scent of a combo of wood, tannins, and smoke. A tart, almost vinous nature dominated the flavor. The alcohol seemed well hidden. Tried to be objective but didn’t hold up to other ISs that I’ve tried.

Black with a brownish head. Nice roasted aroma with loads of chocolate/cocoa. Starts out sweet, again chocolate-like, and then finishes nicely bitter. A very nice experience.

Draft at Rustico in Alexandria VA. Pours a deep dark black with a small brown head that dissipates. Aroma is dark roasted malts, with a touch of sweetness. Flavor is roasted coffee, malts, element of sweets and some smoke. Pretty well refined, smooth and easy to drink - alcohol content packs a punch but is not noticeable.

Cask at the Copenhagen beer festival. Poured black with a small brown head. Aroma consisted of dark roasted notes. Flavor was dark with roasted coffee flavor. Lacking something a quite conservative for me.

Black of color with a small white head. An aroma of liqurice and weak sweets. A flavor of liqurice and prunes.
