Commercial Description:
Cockney Imperial Stout was born at the request of Mike Wilson, publican and proprietor of Cockney Pub in Århus. Mike talked Niels Jørn into brewing a whole batch of a rich, dark, very strong stout exclusively for his pub. The stout went like wildfire, and 800 litres were sold from a single tap in the small pub in just 5 weeks! Rumors of this amazing stout spread to the rest of the country, convincing Niels that this smooth, black beer should be a constant in the WinterCoat selection. It, like many of WinterCoat's strong beers, goes down deceivingly smoothly.

Picked this bottle up in Denmark, Sept’ 08 Pours black with beige head, big roasted and burnt malts dominate the nose with just a slight element of sourness. Sweeter in the mouth than expected, but roasted malts again and some light smokiness, bit of coffee and liquorice.

Bottled (8% ABV). The body is blacka s coal with a medium sized and persistent and almost creamy brown head. Very nice appearence and so id the aroma that has a medium maltiness, with some roastiness and notes of coffee, chocolate and some berries and smoke. Complex nose, maybe slightly less powerful for the style, but far from weak. The flavour has a medium sweetness and you are hit by the roasted malts that are quite strong. Some smoke too and the usual notes of coffee, chocolate and licorice. Medium body and not much more, soft/average carbonation, medium/long finish with medium bitterness. Lightly alcoholic. Tasty and drinkable imperial stout.

Strong aroma, dark fruits mainly. after it warms up i also get coffee. dark brown, light brown head. flavor dark fruits, banana, coffee, some boose flavor that i disliked, but only when cold, was better when warmer. actually it does not taste entirely like a porter, more like an aged beer of some sort. or a mix. For an aged beer it is very very good.

Nice with a truly english stout (i.e. only slightly carbonated, flat and malty)! Lack of carbonation gives way to a slowly building, sugar sweet alcoholic flavour that lingers for a long time. A bit bland smell, which improves along the way - but do I detect somewhat fleshy notes? Taste is caramel, cream, some liqourice and some smoke (though not too much) - all within the burned malt. All in all a nice and stouty beer, but not that outstanding.
