Commercial Description:
Cockney Imperial Stout was born at the request of Mike Wilson, publican and proprietor of Cockney Pub in Århus. Mike talked Niels Jørn into brewing a whole batch of a rich, dark, very strong stout exclusively for his pub. The stout went like wildfire, and 800 litres were sold from a single tap in the small pub in just 5 weeks! Rumors of this amazing stout spread to the rest of the country, convincing Niels that this smooth, black beer should be a constant in the WinterCoat selection. It, like many of WinterCoat's strong beers, goes down deceivingly smoothly.

50 cl bottle, best by 3/08. Dark, but slightly clear, brown with a brief tan head. Nose is coffee, molasses and chocolate. Medium body with needley carb. Thin chocolate, coffee and bitter greens. Alcohol in the finish.

50 cL bottle. Pours deep dark brown with a dense and light brown head. Roasted malt aroma. Notes of chocolate, coffee and with a mild orange fruity note. Flavour starts roasted but also sweet. Mild fruity note intermixing with a soft chocolate flavour. Smooth mouthfeel as well. Goes into a really solid roasted and bitter finish and a mild warming alcohol note. Very nice brew.

500ml bottle from Høkeren, Copenhagen. Unfiltered and unpasteurized ale that pours a deep black body topped by a dense, beige head, slowly fading. Very inviting confectionary aroma with a solid malty support. Taste of roasted grain and dark chocolate with suggestions of salt breaking through. Some bitter fruits on the swallow. Noticeable alcohol. Full, but a bit cloying palate. Nevertheless, a promising beginning to my ratings in the New Year (03.01.2008).

50 cl bottle, via sk8viking. Pours a very dark brown, almost black body with a nice tight bubbled one finger light brown head that had excellent retention due to the slightly active carbonation. Aroma is of heavy roast, coffee, some yeast, and some earthy notes. The flavor is chocolaty and roasty with a slight burnt coffee and dark caramel middle. Finishes with some chalky burnt notes and some malt derived bitterness. A little bit of an alcohol burn in the finish as well. Mouthfeel is slightly cloying and sticky with a little too much fizzy prickly carbonation. Overall, a pretty nice beer, but it could use a little bit more softness on the palate.

Comments: Rather sweet, malt-oriented imperial stout with a smooth palate, rounded with earthy notes. Very pleasant and spirited.

Almost black colored with slight red hints. Little light brown head. Nice Impy-aroma with licorice and vanilla, roastiness also here, rather sweet aroma. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is also excellent: roastiness and sweet fruits, licorice and mild alcohol. Aftertaste is roasted and creamy. Palate is somehow watery.
