COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cockney Imperial Stout was born at the request of Mike Wilson, publican and proprietor of Cockney Pub in Århus. Mike talked Niels Jørn into brewing a whole batch of a rich, dark, very strong stout exclusively for his pub. The stout went like wildfire, and 800 litres were sold from a single tap in the small pub in just 5 weeks! Rumors of this amazing stout spread to the rest of the country, convincing Niels that this smooth, black beer should be a constant in the WinterCoat selection. It, like many of WinterCoat's strong beers, goes down deceivingly smoothly.

UPDATED: OCT 23, 2005 Butterscotch is strong in the chocolatey aroma. Opaque black body with low but lasting, large bubbled, tan head that coats the glass. Chocolate, roasty flavour is full of dark malt bitterness. Creamy texture to the dry, medium-light body. Somewhat mineralic. Sampled on tap at Brewpub Kobenhavn.

Cask conditioned@Lord Nelson, København. Abv 8.0%. A layer of tan bubbles over a near black body. Initial aroma of sour dark fruits. Then a scent of roasted malts and coffe. Taste has strong coffee and cocoa notes. Some salty licorice and burnt caramel, and notes of acidic fruits. Medium fullness. Low carbonation level, easy on the palate. Coffee and bitter chocolate in the fade. Straightforward with an acidic touch.

Cask at Spuyten Duyvil - nice black beer, with a serious tan head - odd aroma of lavender, licorice, coffee - quite smooth and creamy, though much of that is probably from the cask - the flavor is strongly smoky up front, followed by some bitter coffee ground flavor - at first, the beer is an odd combination of tobacco, old tire, and some rubber/phenolic/band-aid flavor - rather off-putting - oddly enough, once the beer gets around room temp, this rubbery quality disappears - the tobacco and strong coffee flavor remain, along with some creamy vanilla, and persistent smoke - unique but not entirely interesting floral character, and some fruity touches - weird, but it grew on me.

Roasted malty aroma with dark fruits, coffee rye and a touch of hops. Dark brown coloured with a thin, brown, lasting, somewhat frothy head. Taste is sweet. More and more bitterness towards the finish. Dark coffee-toffee, roasted malts with dark fruits. Bit watery texture. Nice brew.

Bottle. Large creamy brown head that mostly lasted. Spare lacing. Black color. Aroma was a lovely mix of coffee, chocolate, burned and light Smokey notes, liquorish. Medium to full bodied with a soft carbonation. Flavor was moderated sweet with good bitter burned notes. Finish was sweet that ends in a somewhat bitter feel.

The first beer at KP’s cellar tasting that I tired and may well be the lowest alcohol. It poured almost black with a dark tan head. I struggled to identify the aroma it had a sweet malt with a slight hint of coffee. It had a flavor almost like espresso but sweet. A nice smooth body and texture for this beer. I beer I could not completely figure out but I did figure out that I liked it.
