Ofortuna (285), Grafton, Wisconsin, USA May 8, 2008 From my backlog. Decent head retention and lacing, but quickly faded once I started getting the aroma. Creamy mouthfeel. Nice use of dark specialty malts. Slight bitterness that was accentuated by the type of water used. A bit of black liqorice and dark chocolate that pop-up on the finish. I don’t really get the "imperial" factor here. Very, "eh" and unexciting overall.
Furseth (1091), Kungälv, Sweden Jul 23, 2008 Bottle: Deep red clear colour, flat head. Aroma of whisky, smokey, tar, some citric nose was there too. Flavor was surpricely smouth mouth feeling, medium body, thin to medium smokey/malty finish. nice Imaena (175), Portland, Maine, USA Jul 20, 2008 Draught@ Novare Res courtesy of Steve. Sweet and malty carmel and thick creamy mouthfeel. Sweet, really really sweet. Psykling (12), Copenhagen, Denmark Jun 18, 2008 Nice with a truly english stout (i.e. only slightly carbonated, flat and malty)! Lack of carbonation gives way to a slowly building, sugar sweet alcoholic flavour that lingers for a long time. A bit bland smell, which improves along the way - but do I detect somewhat fleshy notes? Taste is caramel, cream, some liqourice and some smoke (though not too much) - all within the burned malt. All in all a nice and stouty beer, but not that outstanding. maniac (1921), Richmond, Virginia, USA May 22, 2008 On tap at Capital Ale House - Midlothian. Dark black body with a medium creamy dark tan head. Chocolate and molassas aroma. Dark chocolate flavor, molassas, very little hop flavor, but a firm hop bitterness. Medium body, slightly thinner than I expect for an imperial stout, Medium low carbonation. Kinz (1873), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA May 15, 2008 Draft at Capital Alehouse Midlothian. Pours a thick black with dark brown at edges, decent head fades entirely. Aroam is sweet, with a slightly medicinal molasses aroma. Treacle flavor dominates. Some chocolate and molasses as well. Very British in nature, a bit like le Coq in some ways, just not as thick. Medium bodied, slightly boozy. Interesting, but in a way, not especially enjoyable.
