GAManiac (446), Atlanta, Georgia, USA May 11, 2008 Pours black with ruby hints around the edges. Tan head is two fingers and has solid retention and lacing throughout. Smell is much sweeter than I had anticipated. There is a huge dark fruit presence with roasted malts and a bit of chocolate. Taste follows the smell with a big sweet malty taste up front with hints of chocolate and coffee. There was some dark fruits along with additional vanilla sweetness and licorice. There was a touch of hops in the taste but not much. Mouthfeel was rich and creamy with moderate carbonation. I actually really liked this beer, despite the fact that I question it’s classification as an RIS. It’s extremely smooth and sweet which makes it very drinkable. Recommended as a sweet stout.
Fin (2451), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Nov 2, 2008 Picked this bottle up in Denmark, Sept’ 08 Pours black with beige head, big roasted and burnt malts dominate the nose with just a slight element of sourness. Sweeter in the mouth than expected, but roasted malts again and some light smokiness, bit of coffee and liquorice. FatPhil (2408), Espoo, Finland Sep 21, 2008 500ml bottle (Fish and Beer)
Glassy jet black, brief head. Sweet dark fruits, including raspberry, in the aroma. Big fruit estery body. Sweet and aromatic. Anna says walnut. Goes down so easily for 8.4%. Slayer85 (460), Firenze, Italy Sep 1, 2008 Bottled (8% ABV). The body is blacka s coal with a medium sized and persistent and almost creamy brown head. Very nice appearence and so id the aroma that has a medium maltiness, with some roastiness and notes of coffee, chocolate and some berries and smoke. Complex nose, maybe slightly less powerful for the style, but far from weak. The flavour has a medium sweetness and you are hit by the roasted malts that are quite strong. Some smoke too and the usual notes of coffee, chocolate and licorice. Medium body and not much more, soft/average carbonation, medium/long finish with medium bitterness. Lightly alcoholic. Tasty and drinkable imperial stout. EHSRanders (751), Randers C, Denmark Aug 16, 2008 Bottle. Black colour with medium creamy light brown mostly lasting head. Aroma is roasted malt. Sweet spicy flavor with notes of coffee. Pinball (813), Allerød, Denmark Jul 30, 2008 Strong aroma, dark fruits mainly. after it warms up i also get coffee.
dark brown, light brown head.
flavor dark fruits, banana, coffee, some boose flavor that i disliked, but only when cold, was better when warmer.
actually it does not taste entirely like a porter, more like an aged beer of some sort. or a mix. For an aged beer it is very very good.
