hopscotch (4433), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Apr 19, 2008 Cask (Redlight Redlight)... Hazy orange ale with almost no head. The earthy aroma is a blend of peat smoke, leather, wood and toffee. Medium-bodied with a skim-milk mouthfeel and only a rumor of carbonation. The flavor is acidic throughout and lightly bitter on the backside. Very tangy finish. Easy drinking. I could drink this beer all day, every day. Ungstrup (11031), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jan 14, 2007 A deep dark red beer with a huge, but collapsing brown head. The aroma is quite sweet and malt with strong notes of sweet berries, like a good jam, but also with lighter notes of smoke from peat. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of herbs, spices, red berries, and peat smoked malt, leading to a more dry than bitter end, with a bit of acidity from the roasted malt. A really nice beer. PhillyBeer2112 (1836), Orange Park, Florida, USA Apr 17, 2008 Cask @Redlight. Deep amber color, full creamy beige head, Medium smoky aroma with spicy hops (or is it the bog myrtle) and caramelized malts. Lightly smoked flavor, more caramelized malts and a lightly tart fruitiness that could come from the berries. Spiciness skirts the edges in the flavor. Light palate and carbonation from the cask conditioning. Very unique and interesting. JoeMcPhee (3671), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Mar 3, 2008 Cask at Blind Tiger. Dark amber-brown beer. The aroma is loaded with sweet toasted brown malt overlain with rich sweet smokiness. A nice berryish character that really reminds me of the elderberries in grozet. Lightly salty and briny flavour but it’s mostly loaded with sweet fruit and smoke over a rich dark malt. Palate is a little thin, but that is actually nice when it’s on cask. Comes across very British (even though it isn’t). Tasty brew. Bragesnak (1134), Aarhus, Denmark Apr 30, 2008 Ølfestival, Valby, DK.
On tap.
Fruit notes and malty backbone. Smoke in aroma and flavor
