This beer has been a Christmas tradition in the brewer's home since 1996 and was the beginning of the WinterCoat dream - and with good reason! Its dark colour has a deep, reddish glow, the fruitiness is intense, accentuated by a touch of citrus and balanced by the spiciness which the 3 types of hops contribute in glorious harmony. If only Christmas could last til Easter, as the Danes say...

(Bottle) Poured dark reddish brown and quite clear. Head had light brown colour and it was quite large. Aroma was really spicy - I found at least clove, fennel and chocolate, Palate was full bodied with quie low carbonation. I expected the taste to be really spicy, too, but it wasn’t. The flavours I found were roastedness, mildly fennel, chocolate, sweetness, hops and bitterness. Aftertaste was dry and malty. The excessive dryness on the aftertaste actually spoiled this beer a bit. Still for a spiced beer this one has got good drinkability and balanced flavours.

500 ml bottle.
Pours a dark reddish brown colour with a thick, creamy and beige head. Aroma of sweet malts and syrup. Flavour of mild spices, sweet heavy malts, some hops, syrup and raisins. Very round mouthfeel and burning alcohol finish. Aging would probably make this a bit more balanced.

(Bottled) Dark brown with a small, firm but mostly fading head. Borderline-glueish nose with British-style citrusy-fruity hops and spices. Flavor is dark-fruity, citrusy-hoppy, licoricey, sourish-malty. Medium to full body, lowish carbonation. A more Xmasy and warming alternative to Shepherd Neame Christmas Ale, but not something I’d buy again. 4446

750ml Bottle: Very faint aroma of dust and cocoa. Poured a muddy brown/deep amber color with a small to medium-sized, creamy, dense, tan head that diminished but lasted throughout. Opaque. Some large particles. Flavor is medium sweet. Tastes of fruit, cherry, and cocoa. Medium body. Lightly dry, chalky texture. Soft to average carbonation. Fruit, cherry, and cocoa finish. A really mixed up brew, with all kinds of strange flavors coming and going throughout.

Clear brownish color with a medium head. Malty aroma with a little bread. Strong malty flavor, lightly yeasty, and some fruit along with that. Some orange and what I thought was coriander when it was cold, but that seems to have faded with temperature rising. A bit of apple.

lots of flavor everywhere, it takes a great presence of rich looking malts and the aspect of fruits both take and slightly acidic. the rest of the is smooth hand flavorful with much to go around.

The aroma has spices, fruit (blueberries), malt, and pine. The appearance is deep mahogany with a small head. The flavor is not as complex. It has some spice but but it’s not sweet like I was expecting and has almost non of the other qualities besides malt. The finish is bitter. The palate is thin but somewhat smooth from carbonation. Overall it smells better than it tastes.
