4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
0.75l bottle shared with BelgBeerGeek @ Kulminator. This one is a hard to see through- amlost impossible actually and it’s colored near black with a medium sized and lacing beige head. The aroma has sweetness, chocolate paper, dark malts, syrup and fruity blackberries. All in all quite a complex and really nice aroma. Hard for me to tell what genre this beer is classified as but it’s definitely really really tasty! Packed with sweetness without being sweet, dark, hazelnutty and malty, boozy dipped biscuits with sugar on top and raisins on the side. This was an extreme tasty brew. Thanks for the tip Vincent! 02.06.2012

Pairing menu prepared by chef of Mercy’s Ann Arbor, Winterkoninkske was used in squash and maple syrup ice cream on Belgian waffle. An elegant aperitif-level vintage beer.

Bottle 75 cl. Black in color with a tan mocha head. Dark fruits, nuttyness, dark chocolate and coffee in aroma. Later on also some berries. Dark syrup sweetness, raisins and chocolate in taste. Smooth mouthfeel. Awesome as a dessert beer.
Bitter cocoa in finish.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled. Pours clear, deep brown with an average, tan head. Aroma of toasted malt, caramel, yeast, brown sugar and chocolate notes. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry and slightly bitter and with an alcohol bite. Medium to full bodied, oily to syrupy texture and soft carb. A very nice Belgian Strong.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a thick black with a tan/brown head with decent retention. Nose has some very subtle cocoa and coffee notes and roasted malt. There’s definitely a bit of a bourbon presence in there too. Starts a bit subtle with some malty notes. It’s smooth and medium bodied on the tongue with a bit of coffee but pretty subtle. The finish is pretty strong of honey bourbon and fairly sweet. The bourbon notes linger on the tongue but are balanced out by sticky sweetness.
I enjoyed this a lot. It’s fairly complex with different but complementary flavors presenting themselves at each stage of the beer. I would recommend this beer but definitely to the more experienced beer drinker.

Drank during an awesome tasting at Thijs’ place 28-3-2014 (2012 bottle). Awesome beer. Really full taste. A bit salmiac in the beginning. But after that very sweet. Really rich, sweet beer. Perfect!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a large frothy light brown head that mostly diminishes. Body is flat black. Looks like a stout.
Doesn’t taste like a typical one, though. Aroma’s of dark bread, cookie, roasted malts, nuts, molasses, dark chocolate, strong coffee, flowers, pine, grape, raisin, plum, apple, cherry, brown sugar, alcohol (booze) and spices.
Complex flavors starting out with light acidic, then sweet and later on also bitter which fades to light bitter, to finish is bitter.
Body is medium to full with syrupy texture and soft carbonation.
Great complex beer that’s partly boozy, partly containing sweet dried fruits and red or forest fruits and espresso like bitter finish.
