Bottled. Pours clear, deep brown with an average, tan head. Aroma of toasted malt, caramel, yeast, brown sugar and chocolate notes. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry and slightly bitter and with an alcohol bite. Medium to full bodied, oily to syrupy texture and soft carb. A very nice Belgian Strong.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a thick black with a tan/brown head with decent retention. Nose has some very subtle cocoa and coffee notes and roasted malt. There’s definitely a bit of a bourbon presence in there too. Starts a bit subtle with some malty notes. It’s smooth and medium bodied on the tongue with a bit of coffee but pretty subtle. The finish is pretty strong of honey bourbon and fairly sweet. The bourbon notes linger on the tongue but are balanced out by sticky sweetness.
I enjoyed this a lot. It’s fairly complex with different but complementary flavors presenting themselves at each stage of the beer. I would recommend this beer but definitely to the more experienced beer drinker.

Drank during an awesome tasting at Thijs’ place 28-3-2014 (2012 bottle). Awesome beer. Really full taste. A bit salmiac in the beginning. But after that very sweet. Really rich, sweet beer. Perfect!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a large frothy light brown head that mostly diminishes. Body is flat black. Looks like a stout.
Doesn’t taste like a typical one, though. Aroma’s of dark bread, cookie, roasted malts, nuts, molasses, dark chocolate, strong coffee, flowers, pine, grape, raisin, plum, apple, cherry, brown sugar, alcohol (booze) and spices.
Complex flavors starting out with light acidic, then sweet and later on also bitter which fades to light bitter, to finish is bitter.
Body is medium to full with syrupy texture and soft carbonation.
Great complex beer that’s partly boozy, partly containing sweet dried fruits and red or forest fruits and espresso like bitter finish.

4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Stout-like appearance, thin tan head. Aroma of dark cherries, prunes,, candy, soy sauce/teriyaki, tomato paste. Thick mouthfeel with sweet caramel, metallic soy-sauce like taste, dark dried fruit, port-like complexity without cloying sweetness, and well-concealed high alcohol. Overall impression this is an absolutely awesome wintery grand cru.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from 16 Tons Taphouse, Eugene. Pours an incredibly dark color, little to no tan head, looks very still. Nose subtle and complex, fruity: figs, raisins, cherries. Boozy with a hint of bourbon maybe. Body thick and a bit lively, finish luxurious and sweet, almost some echoes of kola nuts, but a lingering hotness, too. Don’t know how old this bottle is, but would be worth keeping to see how it evolves. A bit less hot and this would be legendary. Very nice in any event.
