COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Beside the ‘Bloesem Bink’, you can also enjoy a second seasonal beer, the ‘Winterkoninkske’. This beer is, just like the others, unfiltered, not pasteurized, with secundary fermentation in the bottle. The ‘Winterkoninkske’ is the ideal beer to make a cold and chilly winter evening pleasant. The ingredients are: seven types of malt (among which rolled oats), two belgian types of hop, brewing liqour and yeast. Our winter beer is a dark and heartwarming beer with a pure, sugary flavour and a long, bitter aftertaste. The alcohol content of this heavy beer is 8,3 % vol.alc.

Appearance is quite pretty with a murky cola pour leaving a nice and thick off-white head that gives way to a small white film with no sign of lacing. Smells fantastic with a strong hint of brown sugar and lighter hints of cola, coffee, and chocolate. Tastes pretty darn good as well and is surprisingly complex. I believe it reminds me of a good porter more than a strong dark ale, which I realize is something of a catch all. Sweetness, milky textured, and a taste of coffee and cream with some fruits hiding around the end. Relatively high alcohol content is successfully masked. Carbonation is just a tad too heavy. Body is leaning medium. Drinkability is great, I would absolutely have one again but probably not session due to the alcohol level.

UPDATED: MAR 8, 2014 Really sweet beer. Very present alcohol warmth. Also hints of caramel. Dry finish. The sweetness is dominating, nice. Drank again this week with Rik and Lennart while watching wie is de mol, unaware of the fact that I already drank it once. This what my notes said: Donker. Beetje schuim. Lekker dik, goede mouthfeel. Alles goed. Beetje naar andere beschrijvingen kijken. Zoete valt op maar niet te.

Pours a deep rich lurking dark reddish brown, great lasting head, lots of yeast and very barley wine like. Really good use of hops, but in a very traditional sense. The commercial description states rolled oats are part of the barley malt, you can taste a subtle dense malt backbone throughout the beer. This is very well crafted and I would recommended it. Speaking for my palate, barleywines and their close malty cousins are a 50-50 chance for the taste buds....

in bottle. like the depths of the ocean, no light can penetrate this beer. A delicious balance of hops and malt, spiced with holiday goodness - the taste of winter fruits, cinnamon andn nutmeg. Clearly the beer to drink on the winter solstice.
