COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Pleasant belgian fruity aroma. Hazy orange, large spongy head. Nice bready malts. A bit watery. Simple smooth palate, carbonation low. Belgian taste, but a touch boring. Hard to actually flaw though.

The colour is golden yellow and the liquid is quite cloudy. The pale beige, medium sized foam dissolves into a compact lid. The discreet smell got some notes of malts and nuts. The carbon dioxide is mild with big bubbles that tickle my mouth. The taste starts with a rush of lactose that develops into a blend of sweet malts, bitter hops and some dry, tingling feel. But when the mouthfeel is complicated, the taste is really quite straightforward. There are some similarities with Belgian wheat ales like Hoegaarden White. The aftertaste is long lasting but at the same time, it is sort of mild. This beer is unpasteurized and unfiltered and is marketed as a “Fresh Beer”. The inspiration is taken from the brews that were common in the medieval city of Visby during its heydays during the 14th century. Wisby Klosteröl is brewed by the Gotlands Bryggeri microbrewery that serves as an experimental workshop for the large Spendrups Brewery. It is located in Visby, the main town on the island of Gotland, located in the centre of the Baltic Sea. The water on the island is very limy, bringing a special touch to their beers. Wisby Klosteröl is not available in summertime, as the brewery then is concentrated on brewing special beers for the popular annual medieval festival in Visby, “The Medieval Week on Gotland”.

UPDATED: MAY 6, 2010 Aroma: Hint from grains, grass, some hops and little sweet malt. Flavor is pale from malt, grains, grass and some low bitter hops. Medium body. Nothing is really offensive in this one. Would have liked it more if it was more bitter and had a bigger mouthfeel. First rate:Hazy copper body. No head. Taste is bitter, fruity and fresh. In the same time dry in the finish. Little soure...4/2/6/3/13
