Sometimes you want a particular beer, and you can’t get a particular beer. In this region, American IPAs are few and far between. Enter #002. Flavorful, well-balanced, and best of all, right here. Cheers! “This IPA is all about a good malt foundation and a whole lotta’ hops. We’ve got Wisconsin-grown Centennial, Chinook and Columbus varieties in here, plus some west coast Cascade. This brew packs a symphony of flavor. I think you’ll enjoy it. Hey, if you’re hoppy, I’m hoppy.”

Aroma is dank/grassy hops and light notes of citrus and fruit. The flavor is citrus, grapefruit, fruit, a good hint of hop resin in the texture and a dry and mildly tangy finish.

About a 45-degree pour right off the truck. No chill haze and a pure golden color. First 2 sips were full of hops. Rest of the glass showed off the malty background and proved its balance. Very warming at the end at over 7%.

Bottle. Pours to a golden body with a thin white head. Aroma is light hops. The flavor is really balanced for an IPA. Like an English IPA. Medium body that is clean and easy drinking. Light actualized bitterness.

12 oz. bottle poured to a shaker at Come Back In in Madison, WI. for their Maifest/Derby gathering. Showed a clear, golden color, with persistent, white head foam, and wavy lacing. The nose was some tropical & floral hints, with white grapefruit, and a touch of resin. The taste was similar, with a light to medium body, good carbonation to project the flavor notes, and moderate hop bitterness. A decently drinkable IPA, so I passed on the Session IPA this time.

Amber pour. Nose is candied malt, lght pine and citrus. Degraded pine and citrus, almost acidic, with some malt backing. Lingering acidic citrus. Not particularly good.

Bottle. Pours crystal clear orange amber, medium creamy beige head, dissipates fairly slowly with good lacing left behind. Aroma is light pine, citrus, caramel, more pine. Flavor is light sweet and light bitter, sprucy, citrus, bread and pine. Medium body, medium soft carbonation. Also not bad, but lacking the juicy pop of the better IPAs.

Bottled. Coppery amber color with a medium foamy head. Flowery, resiny hop aroma with a bit of toffee malt. Taste is herbal, medicinal bitterness up front with a fade of sweet malt at the end. Finish is crisp herbal hops and a long dry medicinal bitterness. Medium bodied with a decent tingly carbonation level. I liked this one.

[Tap] Sampled at the brewery. Pours a clear light amber color. Soapy looking head. Mild pine cone and grapefruit in the nose. Taste is a bit more assertive, with resinous hops and metallic hints. Light in body and bitterness quickly falls off in the finish. Like many of their beers, nothing wrong with this but not much happening here.

Bottled. Poured clear, lighter golden with a creamy, sticky white head. The aroma picked up sweeter citrus and peppery notes over sweet caramel and light biscuits.. not all that hop-focused or interesting, but it appeared to have nice balance. The flavor found mostly pale and caramel malts at the core with dank, lightly vegetal notes around.. tacky and bitter on the finish. Lighter-bodied with moderate carbonation.. OK feel.. overall not very enjoyable.

Not a bad beer by any means. A little light for me. Taste is floral and hoppy but short lived with little to no aftertaste. Hardly any aroma. Happy to try a Wisconsin beer during our visit to the state. When in Rome, as they say. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
