Pours almost a reddish brown...not the dark brown I like in my porters. Average head with some nice lacing. Taste has some nice chocolate overtones, but not the heavier tastes we usually look for. As some others have noted, almost a brown ale more than a porter. Not a bad beer...just not a great one.

12 oz single from my trip to Wisconsin. Pours a darker brownish pour, a good haze with orangish edges, light shines through with a glow. A brown ale it seems, a small frothy tannish brown head sits atop, dies to a small layer, laces small. Aromas are a bit chocolatey up front, creamy sweetness, some brown malts, touches of toast and roast, mellow with some more brown malts, touches of spice, some caramel sweetness. A bit vague. Initial is chocolatey and creamy, some soda bread dryness, toast, and brown malts. A touch of toffee, some touches of spicy yeasy, bread, toffee, a touch of molasses maybe. Lightly sweet, faint bitterness in the finish. A touch of metallic feel on the palate, lighter end of medium bodied for sure. Sadly, the beer is forgettable. Mellow sweetness, a vague finish, no dominant flavor. Meh. Drinkable but vague and forgettable, more of a bland brown ale. Looks nice though.

Bottle. Aroma is a very light caramel maltiness. A deep ruby red color in the glass is followed by a very average tasting porter, that seems more like an amber ale than anything else. The almost nonexistent mouthfeel doesn’t help its case either. It’s drinkable, but not a very good beer overall.

Dark amber, transparent, minimal head. Light roast, caramel in aroma, not much else. Flavor is a watery mess. Extremely thin body and mouthfeel.

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2010 Bottle.
A - Looks like a dark Brown Ale with a ruby brown color. A larger than average, bubbly, foamy, light, off-white color. About average (a little below probably) retention but a nice foamy layer of lace left.
S - Slightly roasted malt aroma along with hints of chocolate. A good amount of earthy, nutty aromas as well. Some toasted caramel and toffee too. Definitely a porter that is closer to a Brown Ale than to a Stout.
T - Starts with some roasted malt. A lot of earthy and nutty flavors come out. Maybe a touch of maple. Reminds me a lot of a Brown Ale, but a bit more roasted. As it warms, more milk chocolate and cocoa flavors start to come out. Some toasted caramel and toffee also comes out in the back (present initially but more so as it warmed).
M - Lighter body with about average carbonation. A little too watery/thin and just a bit drying on the finish.
D - Pretty drinkable beer with a nice Porter/Brown Ale taste. Plenty of nuttiness and later chocolate making it a fairly sweet beer.
Notes: Pretty nutty overall with some chocolate coming out as it warms. It seemed to be in between a Porter and a Brown Ale. Pretty sweet with almost no hop presence, but not cloying. A decent beer and a nice inexpensive porter. Not going to be anything great, but it is pretty drinkable and has an above average taste.

Pours a dark red mahogany with a massive creamy tan head. Nose is carmel with light notes of chocolate. Medium bodied and creamy on the palate. Taste is fairly mild for a porter, mostly molasses, malt and a touch of carmel. Satisfying finish, not too dry. A good example of the style but not top tier. Pairs well with grilled Sheboygan brats.

Aroma of barley and roasted coffee. The roasted malts are evident here, and the hops are mild at most. More carbonation than the average beer at the finish.

[Bottle] Pours dark cola-brown with a huge light tan head. Aroma has some brown sugar and rhubarb, with notes of lime. Taste is anise, some chocolate, roasted malt, and dark fruit. Quite nice. Thin mouthfeel with a good length finish. I wasn’t overly impressed at first, but it grew on me and the taste reminded me a little of Red Oak Christmas Cheer.
