hellbilly (768), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Apr 28, 2008 bottle from the bockyhorseys. pours a ruby shade of medium brown with a vigorous beige head that fades quickly. smells like CO2 mixed with tart, cream, medium roasty grain, milk chocolate, earth and ’that’ savory meat note. the flavor is lightly astringent with some wood, milk chocolate and malt. there’s a mild sour dry finish and aftertaste of nutty coffee. watery light mouth feel and body. high prickly carbonation gives it a soft airy texture. everything that is supposed to be there is. unfortunately, in small doses...meh.
eaglefan538 (2020), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 29, 2008 Yet another bottle shared by Bockyhorsey, I do believe. The pour was standard for the style, although a larger than average head (but that could have been because I let my 2 yr old pour this one, she gets kicks out of doing that for me). In any event, pretty standard choco caramel aromas and flavors, malt emphasized. Mouthfeel was moderate in body, slightly acidic. An ok attempt at a style that isn’t that special. Much thanks to Bill for this one! esjaygee (664), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA Jun 13, 2008 Light brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, peat, coffee and light chocolate. Taste of roasted malts, coffee, caramel, chocolate with a mild hop finish to balance it out. Semi-dry finish. phishpond417 (1110), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA May 20, 2008 Sampled on draught and in bottle: Pours a dark brown colour with a small tan head. Semi sweet, hints of chocolate, nuts and other sweet smelling stuff, decent overall. chimpscampee (522), Madison, Wisconsin, USA May 15, 2008 Faint metallic veggie oil note really limits this thin porter that is like a roasty chocolate larger more than a brown ale. This for a porter and limited carbonation.
