Authentic Belgian Wheat Ale

(draught) Very pale, hazy, yellow. Fumed glass impaires real assessment). Very thick, white head, very stable. Nose gives lots of coriandre, not much citrus, and wheat. Taste: coriandre, a bit of vanilla, wheat, but no acidity from the wheat. Quite dry mouthfeel. Typical characterless Belgian wit.

Sold in Ohio (USA?) as Wittekerke. I'm a big fan of wheat brews, especially those from Germany. I figured that this one might be a welcome change. Upon pouring, I was greeted with a highly skunky aroma, which was *very* surprising. Literally no head. Cloudy yellow colored brew... I like that in a wheat brew. Ok... Time to taste. Hmm... Kinda plain. Weak and citrus tasting. Pretty boring, actually. Even Blue Moon (Coors) Belgian white is better than this, and it's an American brew that *emulates* this style. Definately not worth the $7.99 for a 6-pack, especially because the bottles aren't even 12 ounces. Boring. Bland. Not very wheat tasting. It'll quench your thirst, but it seems like a cash-in on the Belgian fanaticism. I can see a big "Belgian white" trend coming on here. Watch. In two years, this stuff will be on tap in ever major beer and wings chain.

UPDATED: JUN 4, 2003 This brew poured a transparent yet cloudy wheat yellow colored body. It had a mild citrus like flavor. It is a drinkable brew but not great brew.

Smells like a Budweiser...I'm relieved at my first sip. Certainly not a powerful Witbier, rather Bavik is pure refreshment, with light lemon, orange, and malt flavors laced with just the hint of sweetness. A previous review called this a "beach beer" and I have to agree. Throwing a few of these on the ice and hitting the sand is not a bad plan.

My first "canned Belgian" which to me sounds like an oxymoron. Color is merky yellow similar to grapefruit juice. Aroma has nothing to say. Flavor is slighty sweet but mostly sour with wheat, bananas, lemon, and grapefruit. It kind of reminds me of that citrus drink Five Alive. Im not really a fan of this style thus far but this is a much better choice than Blue Moon and cheaper! Overall its fairly good but this would not be a session beer for sure.

Normally I steer clear of anything that comes in a can but this one was highly recommended. Poured super cloudy honey colored with very little head and only mild lacing. Not much of an aroma but a very smooth ale and impressive to me only because of the can factor. I didn't really taste anything metallic at all. Subtle wheat taste and even less yeast flavor. I would definately drink it again but there are so many better than this. Great in a glass restricted enviroment i.e. boating, by the pool etc.

Had from a can, $5.99 a six pack. Not bad, a cloudy yellow body with a thin head. Citrus and spice (perhaps cinnamon, and cloves) and coriander. Very quenching.

Pale yellow with a small white head. Perfume aroma...lemon...yeasty. The flavor was a little off for me...odd perfume/lemon mix. Easy going Belgian White.

Wheaty, lemony(bitter) aroma and some nice sweetness. Light cloudy pale with small white foamy lacing head. Medium high carb and light watery body. Paper/pepper spicy. Light bitterness. Some sweet character. Watery. OK, but odd light bitter/lemon character is not too appealing.

Cloudy yellow appearance. Thick foamy white head. Nose is of yeast, fruit, spice, and citrus. Flavor is of citrus fruits and spices; lime and orange being the most detectable. This is a very enjoyable beer. I would say this beer should be sampled from a bottle instead of a can.
