Like a Belgian golden ale, just a lot more grassy and generates a more bubbly feeling in the stomach. Not easy to put down.

Bottle. Pours a hazy orange copper body with a white head. Dusty floral notes, some light fruit esters, pine sap, with a spicy bread y spiciness. A lighter dried and juicy fruit character. Messy fruity citrus and bubblegum sweetness. Some pear notes. Eh this was a bit of a mess.

22 oz. bottle sampled on August 17, 2008.

Appearance: Warm, cloudy, tan-peach color with nice white lacing.

Aroma: Not as strong on the nose as I’d hope. A slight fun, fruity funk: apricot and citrus. A bit of malt, with a very mild (Saaz?) hop presence toward the end. It finished with a whiff of chamomile.

Taste: Tangy, sweet, slightly sour, malty. Overall, I find it a bit too sweet. The taste drastically improves when food is brought into the equation. This is a dinner beer much more than an on-its-own beer.

Palate: When it comes to the mouthfeel, I could drink this one over & over.

Overall: As I mentioned above, it’s a little unbalanced on the sweetness scale. I have very high expectations for this style (with the likes of Saison Dupont and Foret, it’s hard not to). But, this one is definitely leagues better than some farmhouse-styles I’ve had. It is excellent with Asian (esp. peanut-sauce) dishes.

Bomber from John’s Market in Portland, OR. Light apricot color with a frothy white head. Light citrus and spice aromas. Medium body with spritely carbonation that goes creamy. Flavor is lightly citrus, mildly funky, with a little malt, and some bits of hot spice. Very nice feel. It is firm in body and not all that light in flavor. It just doesn’t seem so striking as the European saisons, but it is a very good drink.

Bomber. Pours a hazy amber with a nice white head. Smells of citrus, coriander, ginger, spices. Tastes of dry malt and citrus. Some grassy hints on the finish. Definitely much better than the score suggests.

Farmhouse yeasty and appley smell but too pedestrian overall. Moderate head and clear gold orange color. High pitched citrus/lemon grassy yeasty taste midway through to end. But lacking a caramel or bready malt foundation. Lacking balance and complexity.

Courtesy of Gillard. Pours deep gold with slight haze and white head. The aroma is somewhat tart with undercurrents of sweet apples, some malt sweetness and then earthiness riding along. The carbonation explosion brings malt sweetness, apples and an increasing tartness up to and out of proportion. Midway some grainy malts surface to help out. Into the finish it dries out with more tartness. Not my favorite mix of flavors here.

Bottle courtesy Gillard. Pours a slightly hazy golden with a large white head that leaves good lacing. Aroma is loaded with yeast and hints of citrus and grainy malt. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness. Good.
