Our winter seasonal brew, Alta Gracia Coffee Porter is made in cooperation with the Vermont Coffee Company using 100% certified fair trade, organic coffee from the Alta Gracia farm in the Dominican Republic. Alta Gracia Coffee Porter is an exceptionally smooth and flavorfully complex beer that is surprisingly true to the porter style. The hint of vanilla brings out the sweetness of the dark-roasted Dominican coffee.

Poured into a pint glass. 3.5 A: Pours a dark brown, near black color. Despite my best efforts, I could only muster about half a finger of frothy light brown head. The head fell pretty quickly, but thatís the way the coffee beer crumbles. 3.5 S: This one is a bit simple due to the overpowering coffee component, which isnít necessarily a bad thing. However, Iíd like some of the maltiness get through. 4.0 T: Though the nose is all coffee, the taste is much more complex. Bitter roasty coffee is there at the forefront again, but thereís a rich maltiness backing it up. Good amounts of semi-sweet chocolate followed by roasted barley, molasses, and some graininess. Good. 5.0 M: Medium body. Super creamy, especially for a coffee beer. Good moderate carbonation. Super smooth. Great here. 4.5 D: Good, interesting taste and a damn good mouthfeel make this a very drinkable beer. íNuff said. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 12-16-2010 02:23:44

12oz bottle in an English pint. Pours very dark brown with a lingering, light tan head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malts, a little chocolate and vanilla. Flavor is interesting, but thereís a little something off. Texture is average. Worth trying.

(12oz bottle courtesy of plondrigan!). Pours dark brown with 1" tan head. Aroma is ground dark roasted coffee, earth, dark chocolate and a light berry note.Taste is slightly sweet with a roasty bitterness. Unfortunately, this beer is quite thin. Mouthfeel is somewhat creamy, but still watery. Finish is roasty. An ok beer that would be much better if there was any body to it.

Bottle from Caponeís. Pours deep brownish with 1-finger clingy off-khaki head. Nose is heavy coffee, cacao, chocolate malt. Tastes of huge coffee, cacao, smooth but choclatey. Pretty smooth, and good for an organic brew.

Bottle. Poured dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate roasted sweet malt and coffee aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium dark chocolate and coffee flavor with medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Solid complex beer.

Location: Pint at Copper Mine Pub, 1/25/11

Aroma: The nose is medium sweet and roasty, coffee, some chocolate
Appearance: It has a dark brown color with a decent beige had and some lace
Flavor: The taste is mid sweet as well, coffee and malty notes mostly, light bitterness
Palate: The body is medium (leaning toward the full side) and somewhat creamy, avg carbonation
Overall Impression: Overall this is a fairly solid porter, drinkable and thirst quenching, well-made enough, just very solid stuff.

UPDATED: JAN 27, 2011 Poured from bottle. Aroma of coffee grounds and licorice. Coal black with persistent tan head. Iím getting strong coffee, along with vanilla, Sambuca, smoke, banana flavors. I donít like coffee, so Iím struggling with the flavor. Porter-like feel. Bitter aftertaste. Well done, but not for me. Makes an interesting black and tan.

Bottle, pours jet black with a espresso head, full body, strong slightly sweet coffee aroma, taste like it smells. As a coffee lover I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Pours a black color with a tan head. Aroma is almost all of coffee with some roasted malts, and chocolate. Flavor is the same as the aroma. Pretty much coffee and thatís it.

Medium sized tan head, decent retention and lace. Nearly opaque, black, some ruby edging.Nose is roast, black coffee chocolate and light smoke. Body is almost medium, light carbnonation, sorta thin. Roast and coffee flavors, some sorta vegetal matter, minty notes, weird, caramel, milk chocolate. Dry roasty finish, organic funkiness i guess?? Bottle from statelineliquors.
