3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled October 10, 2013 (~1 month old).
Appearance: The body appears a deep chestnut until viewed through the light where I see a hazy garnet body. The head is tall and fluffy, very slowly dissipating unevenly into a very dense tan coating.
Aroma: The aroma is dominated by earthy freshly roasted coffee. While the coffee is strong and the aroma one-dimensional, I donít find it overly coffee, in-fact itís got a perfect strength to me.
Taste: The intro is muddy, covering up the roasted coffee with a light vanilla and bready presence. The roasted coffee comes through towards the mid-taste though with a good presence, not overbearing in the least. The finish lingers with some bitter roasted coffee.
Palate: The palate is a bit watery with light carbonation. Not a fan of this.
Overall: If the flavor matched the aroma then I would be in heaven. Unfortunately the body and the flavor really throw me off on loving this. I feel that this is a solid coffee porter, but it borders on being great and that bothers me. Iíll give this a try next year, maybe there was a production error this year.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured a deep dark brown out of bottle into snifter. A one inch tan creamy head that disappeared quickly leaving a thin tan ring on the outside of the glass. No lacing. Aroma is very complex with notes of chocolate, malt, coffee and vanilla. Taste is just as complex with coffee weighing in heaviest. Also subtle notes of chocolate and vanilla. Sweet with just a bit of bitterness to balance. Thin mouthfeel was only drawback. Just the right amount of carbonation. Quite enjoyable.

12 oz bottle.
USDA Organic and coming from one of the best breweries in New England. A wonderful, alluring aroma. Vanilla touch in what I consider the best Coffee flavored beer that I have tasted yet. Finishes well. A solid hit. I love porters and this has a nice twist.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: OCT 7, 2013 Presentation: It was poured from tap at the Buffalo Brew Pub and served in a standard pint glass.
Appearance: The body has a very dark brown look with some lighter dark amber/light brown high lights coming through the glass. Visibility is good and the beer is topped off with a small light tan head that fades quickly leaving just a light ring of foam. This makes very minimal slick lacing.
Smell: This is the highlight of the beer. It has lots of wonderful roaster coffee notes in the nose with some milder dark chocolate and dark maltiness for backup.
Taste/Palate: The flavor is more subtle and brings a light medium bodied roasted coffee flavor and dark maltiness to the palate. It has a good balance and pleasant bitterness with some mild dark chocolate and mild hops in the background. On the tongue there is mild carbonation which gives it a very smooth, creamy and mostly slick feel.
Notes: Overall it is a good average Porter with a great aroma and easy drinkability.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Aroma of coffee. Pours an inky black with a rapidly dissipating tan head and no lacing. The taste is bitter. Dark roasted coffee, with hints of chocolate, fruit, and vanilla. The bitter coffee aftertaste lingers. Medium-light body with medium carbonation. Mouthfeel is rather watery. :-( Sadly, BIG coffee flavors negated by watery mouthfeel. Having said that, it was still an enjoyable bitter porter.
