the aroma is amazing but the rest falls a bit flat and thin. the malts are a tad off putting and not much on the hop front.

The aroma is like a chocolate coffee with roasted malt. The appearance is almost black with no head. The flavor is like the aroma with a bitter finish. The palate way too thin. Overall a decent beer but not that great.

Bottle from Whole Foods Charlottesville. Chocolate brown pour with a quickly disappearing head. Very malty coffee/chocolate aroma. Taste is bitter chocolate, roasted malt and finally the sweetness from the oats and a hint of mocha. Medium bodied.

Solid brown head that is rather long lasting and leaves only a slight ring. Dark but not the deepest black. Mostly opaque. The nose is malty with undertones of coffee, but the finish has a preview of the sweetness of the oats. Surprising carbonation hits you first then the malt with dark chocolate tones hit you followed by that deep roasted malt. It finishes with a somewhat long lasting metallic flavor. A little high on the bitter tones and the finish is bearable but not ideal.

nice chocolately black pour with tan head - coffee, roasted malt, chocolate scents are followed by a nice dark chocolate/coffee/malty taste. I have no idea why this is only in the 73 percentile here, it is much better.
