iratherbe (255), Marlton, New Jersey, USA Apr 29, 2006 Try it, but if you really want an oatmeal stout that’s hearty, robust and solid go with Blue Point or Sam Smith. This is a half assed version that’s okay to be fair, but probably not what you’re looking for.
FlssmrBrewAlum (359), South Chicago Suburbs, Illinois, USA Dec 22, 2008 12 oz bottle courtesy of the girlfriends brother. He has been going through a sweeter stout phase lately. Pours a very dark brown pour, pretty clear, with a sizable brown cocoa head that dissipates a bit and laces to an extent. Aromas are oatmeal sweetness, coffee, and maybe a touch of chocolate. Taste starts sweet: no dominant malt character. Oatmeal sweetness coupled with some coffee and dark chocolate. Bitter coffee finish, moderate to thicker body. Ok, too sweet for me though. SSSteve (1655), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Dec 5, 2008 almost black with a small creamy brown head. really pleasant creamed coffee, roast aroma. palate is thick and creamy. flavors of creamed coffee and touches of hops. leaves a bitter coffee finish. could be a bit less bitter and bit more sweet but not bbbb bad. bit. malrubius (559), USA Nov 21, 2008 12 ounce bottle in pint glass. Dark brown/black with lasting ring and lace. Roasty coffee chocolate aroma. Roasted coffee chocolate with dark fruit mild woodsy smoke and medium underlying bitterness. Mild oat tang. Medium body and carbo. Nicely complex. A pleasure to drink. Much better than expected. rugbydude05 (201), Kew Gardens, New York, USA Nov 20, 2008 12 oz bottle, really enjoyed this one. Pours a dark brown/black color with some light passing through. Little to no head. Aroma is very nice of roasted coffee and malt- pretty typical of a good sweet stout. Flavor was outstanding as it was not as sweet as i had expected- very agreeable with kind of a dry bite to it and very noticable maltiness. Palate was smooth going down and the flavor hangs around in your mouth for a while. Pleasant surprise to say the least. timsilvia32 (320), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Oct 30, 2008 This one starts out great. Blackish pour, dark white head. Nice aroma of roasted malt, coffee and slight mocha. Tastes similarly, nice oaty stout, but has a bit bitter finish. Some is nice coffee bitter, but some is from the brew turning sour. Not a bad finish though. I want to say this is from the beer starting to go south, had this experience with some orgainic and farmhouse breweries. Weeping radish in NC is another that has had these problems.
