rocbyter (617), Waterbury, Connecticut, USA Apr 15, 2008 Moderate aroma of coffee and chocolate mixed together well. Clear Dark amber and orange color with some white foam. Smooth chocolate beginning with a bitter coffee and chocolate finish. Very light aroma for a stout.
dmac (833), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Aug 16, 2008 12 oz bottle from Pineypower, thanks Dean. Pours a super dark pitch black, small foamy beige head. Aroma of oats, raosted barley, semi-sweet chocoalte, freeze dried coffee beans. Medium bodied that is nice and smooth with tigth carbonation. Flavor has lots of bitterness from burnt malts, semi-sweet chocolate, cheap chocolate syrup notes and just a lot of sweetness compared to typical roastiness. Not bad stuff and since this is organic does this mean I can impress some vegan tree hugger hottie that I’ve gone green?? EithCubes (1796), Indiana, USA Aug 3, 2008 Bottle. Dark bitter roast aroma, thick coffee and chocolate, again very dry and roasty. Very nice nutty overtones. Dark ruby our looks brown, with a creamy, rocky tanned head. Taste is very dry, nutty with strong roast and just a hint of fruit toward the back, contribution from the oats but without the normal oiliness. Faint earthy hops with dark chocolate and a fresh sort of bean profile, a lovely imitation of coffee. Medium, creamy body, luscious and desirable. Underrated, methinks, as is most of Wolaver’s output – I’d love to come back to this. Palidor19 (1245), Brandon, Florida, USA Jul 17, 2008 the aroma is amazing but the rest falls a bit flat and thin. the malts are a tad off putting and not much on the hop front. nick76 (2015), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 17, 2008 The aroma is like a chocolate coffee with roasted malt. The appearance is almost black with no head. The flavor is like the aroma with a bitter finish. The palate way too thin. Overall a decent beer but not that great. dkachur (723), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Jul 14, 2008 Bottle from Whole Foods Charlottesville. Chocolate brown pour with a quickly disappearing head. Very malty coffee/chocolate aroma. Taste is bitter chocolate, roasted malt and finally the sweetness from the oats and a hint of mocha. Medium bodied.
