Cask, Far From The Madding Crowd. This is a nice light golden color (surprise). Small but persistent white head. Perfumed, light tropical fruit aroma. Pineapple in particular. A brisk bitterness that has sort of a pithy flavor to it, but manages to be very clean. Makes a seamless transition to a crusty bread finish. Mingled throughout is a delicate fruitiness. Bright, dry, clean palate, with just a little lingering bitterness. This is a delicious little ale.

Jan 2008: from BA. Brown pint bottle, best before end of June 2008.
Very pale for an English bitter and slightly cloudy, it isnít bottle conditioned but it came out very lively in deed. A huge white head appeared and wouldnít leave my vase shaped íOld Speckled Hen pint glassí, I could only pour in about one third of the bottle first time.
Very floral and gingery, but in a nice way.
This is a very fine beer, it has that rare ability to please me in all aspects of its taste. Bitter, sharp and refreshing, but in the correct understated way an English bitter should. The hop, barley, yeast attributes all combine to produce an almost perfect pint.
One of the best British beers from a bottle Iíve had for long, long time.

Bottle. Umm, me likey! Good old fashioned musty dry hay-barn aroma. Soft mouth feel. Great leafy hop with definite peperyness on the finish. Nice hints of tropical fruit. Top notch beer.

My Bottom Line:
Citrusy hops reign over this Golden Ale building a leafy and fruity hop finish to balance out silky honeyed cereals.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam covers the shiny deep golden.
-The nose was not as revealing as the flavour profile.
-The mouthfeel is conducive to large gulps.
-This is characterful enough to keep you interested throughout the pint and restrained enough to make you ask for a second one. Great job.
On cask at The Black Friar, London.

BCA (From Southwick Brewhouse). On opening big gushes of foam made me fear the worst but this was pretty good. Orangey hops and tangy malts with perhaps a slight bretty character. Dry firm body with lots of bitterness.

UPDATED: APR 19, 2009 BC from Hunstanton Tossco, 4%. Pale, shining and clear, but swimming with chunks. Sharp citric aroma with cubes of lemon and lime jelly. Yep, thatís exactly it. Woodsy fibrous hop, cleaning product and slight metal, also. Fresh and zesty mandarin-sodden flavour with a nibble of Brett (or the impression of it), and soft, creamily peanutty malt late on. Mellow tinned mandarin/tangerine cheesecake finish without the hop bite I was expecting. Massive sessions potential. In a parallel universe, what lager tastes like. An unusual golden ale either brilliantly hopped, or laced with fruit juce, and I donít care which.
UPDATE Cask, Duke of Wellington, Norwich. Orange amber with a white halo. Lush rose and orange hop aroma, dryness, digestive sweetness, butter biscuit. Total balance of orange rind citrus, yeast and hop. 737315

Bottle. Golden with a small head. Crisp slightly bitter taste. Low carbonation with hops and citrus present. Well balanced and well bottled.
