DruncanVeasey (1612), Burbage, Leicestershire, England May 14, 2008 Bottled. Dark ruby with a thinning beige head shrinking to a halo. Attractive heady malt aroma with hints of clove, chocolate, nuts, dark fruit and coffee, and underpinned with musty hops. Mouth a bit watery and keg mild-like, with soapy liquorice, chalk, coffee, nuts and brine. Tasty, but not especially rich or porterish.
hughie (2150), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England Jan 26, 2008 Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Dark red brown with a very small white head. Delicious rich slightly vinous aroma of Christmas cake and dark fruit. Sweet almost sugary taste has slight tartness and a mid bitter finish. Excellent. sm89walt (173), Norwich, Norfolk, England Jan 9, 2008 Bottle. Very dark brown with a deep red tinge in the light and no head. Dry coffee aromas and contrasting sweet liquorice tones. The flavour is also reasonably dry with a smokey, chocolate character as well as hints of a nutty component. A full and fairly thick finish that immerses the palate with its coffee qualities. Most satisfying. maeib (3917), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England Feb 19, 2007 Cask conditioned - gravity dispense - Luton BF. A very dark brown coloured beer with no head. The aroma is nutty and smoky with chocolate notes. The taste is smooth and malty. Some sweet caramel and chocolate also. Decent RichardGretton (2603), Leicestershire, England Apr 21, 2004 Good looking black beer with a very dry aroma, and a well hopped very dry flavour. Overall a reasonable porter with a slight hint of chocolate.
