COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For the past 75 years, when the mountain air begins to warm in spring, thousands of hikers accept the challenge of traversing the 2,181 mile Appalachian Trail. Along the way, those weary travelers find the familiar white “blaze” trail markers to be a refreshing site guiding them from Maine to Georgia. A similar, original American tradition is the Cream Ale, a clean, dry ale designed as an alternative to mass-produced lagers. Keeping on the path of full flavored, craft beer, our Honey Cream Ale incorporates nearly four pounds per barrel of pure Appalachian honey, rather than adjuncts like corn or rice. The result is a light, crisp, slightly-sweet, session beer evenly balanced between smooth malt, a hint of floral hops, and honey sweetness.

tasted at Brew Do - a bit of honey floral, Coors light’ish, bit of honey sweetness on finish, but not impressive

This is not my favorite style of beer, but it is well done for what it is. Bready malts with a hint of sweetness, light and easy to drink.

12 oz can. Canned on 08/06/2014. (Mr. Bill’s) Roanoke, VA.
Hazy mid-brown colour with a tiny white head. Mild sweet malty aroma. The flavour is sweet toffee, mild honey and malt. Maybe a bit too easy.

Draft at the VA Craft Brewers Festival, Devils Backbone, 8/24/13. Pours a hazy golden color with a large creamy white head. Good head retention. Aroma of pale malts, honey, mild corn. The taste is honey, pale malts, corn, hoppy finish. Medium bodied, well balanced. Nice cream ale.

Tap. Hazy straw with minimal head and no real lacing. Smells floral and rubbery with kind of a wet dog hint. Tastes grainy. Light with a light dry finish. I don’t really like cream ales generally.

Sample at Mellow Mushroom in Johnson City. Pours a slightly hazy yellow-gold color with a thin white head that evaporates quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of toasted malt and hops. Light-bodied with flavors of grainy malt and grassy hops, plus a bit of fruit. The finish is sweet honey and malt with a slight hops aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

Pint on tap. Light haze on the orange-golden body with a small ring of lasting bubbles. Nose is lightly toasted cereal grain kissed by some earthy pollen and honey. Taste is grain, earthy honeycomb and some nice touches of resin and citrus at the end. Light bodied, easy drinker is sweet but well balanced by a crisp finish and has light-medium carbonation.
