COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The British developed the India Pale Ale with plenty of bitter English hops in order for the beer to survive the long sea passage to India. Not to be outdone, American craft brewers have taken this concept a step further. This double IPA is a high-alcohol, hop delivery mechanism distributed only while at its peak. Although well-balanced, the significant hop flavor and essences (over 100 IBU) lurking in this unassuming pale ale will spring on your taste buds and nose.

10% ABV, >100 IBU, 6 SRM.

-American pale and Caramel malts. Magnum, Centennial, Simcoe, and Amarillo hops.

Tap at Mellow Mushroom - Johnson City. Pours hazy orange with a small, frothy white head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is toast and cookie malt, earthy, pine, and citrus hops with pear esters. Flavor is moderate hops and heavy bitterness with sweet fruity esters, supporting cookie malt and a sweet finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Aroma is almost sweet, piney. Pours hazy golden with great lacing. Taste is big, overwhelming hops and malts. Smooth carbonation and mouthfeel. Not an IPA for everyone, I like it.

Sampled during Richmond Beer Week 2011. Pours a slighty hazy orange color with a thin white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of faint malts and citrus and tropical hop notes. The taste is big citrus and pineapple hops and caramel malts. Very bitter and slightly astringent. Medium bodied with high carbonation.

Kinz (3286) - Glen Allen, Virginia, USA - OCT 29, 2011
Draft at Cap Ale Innsbrook. Medium amber orange, slight head. Aroma is hoppy, citric and pine. Flavor is light on the malts, almost thin bodied. Hops are the dominant feature of this beer, citric grapefruit and pine dominate. Not much else here. Needs some malts invited to the party. But not a bad brew.

Great hoppy citrus aromas. Flavors of caramel and leafy hops. Overall a very good DIPA.
