Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks zvikar. As Wolters Fest-Bier. Clear golden. Aroma of malt, cardboard, a bit of caramel and vegetal notes. Sweetish flavor with malt, a bit of cardboard and a slightly drier and bitter finish, a bit vegetal. Light-bodied.

Where and how: Bottle 330ml Beers of the World
Aroma as expected green bottle issues were noted up front. Ok, since that was given beyond that …notes of grainy clean malty character with faint hop hints. Slightly mineral finish. 5-
Appearance :
Top: lighter , lasting head, sparse lace shown.
Base: clear light amber.
Palate : medium light bodied with thinner walls. Lighter than average carbonation.
Taste: Mild “skunky” accents. Clean malt base. Soft approachable finish. Zero heat nor harshness.
Other notes too bad this is sold in green glass.

UPDATED: OCT 7, 2013 Presentation: It was poured from a green bottle into a dimpled mug. Appearance: The body has a nice copper color with good clarity and some light visible carbonation. It sports a small white cap of foam on top that fades slowly and leaves only traces of lacing. Smell: Its aroma has a classic German malt and hop character. It brings fresh bready and sweet candy like notes mixed with herbal and spicy hops. Taste/Palate: The aroma is mirrored exactly by its flavor. A mellow malty sweetness blends with a good balance of hop spice and herbal notes. The palate has pleasant carbonation and a soft feel making it very drinkable. Notes: Overall I would say this is a very solid and well balanced example of the style.

11,2oz bottle. Pours a clear slightly reddish gold with a two inch white head. Smells of malt and carmel. The taste is fairly average with initial tastes of honey, malt, and carmel. This finish is the same with virtually undetectable levels of hop bitterness. Carbonation is medium light and the mouthfeel is fairly thin. Very little flavor although the age of this beer is suspect and the hop bitterness may have faded over time. Pleasant under the right circumstances but mostly boring and unimpressive. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Big Top Beverage Mart, Roslyn case ($20ish): Pours golden with a white head. Aroma is light, mediocre German hops, bready maltiness, some grain. Taste is much the same. Slightly hoppy. Not remotely close to the level of maltiness you get in American marzens. Not bad.

Herber, leicht würziger Antrunk. Leichte Hopfennoten, die Würzigkeit nimmt ab. Trinkbares Märzen. 10/8/8/8/9/8

50cl bottle with a label golden-etched in directly from the 70s. Never a good sign when a 5,4% Märzen has a fumy nose on it like a Heller Bock... Pours a rusty brown vegetable broth, taste is the same metallic Märzen goodness, rounded off with a coarse twist of Hopfenextract. Not vile, but as onedimensional and rough as a Lower Saxonian who is not in on a good Austrian Schmäh-joke. I’ll stick to Wolters Pilsner at the summer barbecue...
