Clear golden color with a big sticky head. Aroma grainy and somewhat sweet. Taste also grainy and a little sweet. This is not bad, but it lakes the crispness you’d expect from a pilsner.

500 ml can, $1 at Famous Liquors. Pours a bright, pale yellow pilsener color under a sudsy head. Smell has the hard water treatment and a bit of sodium that comes from certain pilsneners. Taste, though, falls just under par. Watery, a bit of noble hop, a bit sweet and somehow artificial. But that’s generally the result of cheaper German lagers after a long overseas voyage. I’ll get by.

2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Clear golden. Tall fluffy head. Good retention. Grainy aroma with a note of cardboard. Light to medium body. Sweet malty taste. A winy note. Relatively low bitterness. A strange Pils. Grassy & citric hoppiness is not the case with this one.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Can sample. Very clear and light golden with small quickly diminishing white head. Sweetish aroma with notes of corn sugar and some flowers. Sweetish sugary flavor, notes of flowers and honey, light bitterness. Soft carbonation, light-bodied.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Clear light gold pour with a thin white head. Aroma is cereal, oily grain, corn, light floral and citrus hops, maybe a touch of grassiness. Flavor is cereal, toasty grain, grass, hay, light skunk, mineral water and a touch of sulfur. Light body, fairly heavy and sharp carbonation, dry and crisp to chalky feel. Decent overall, a few off notes, but nothing too terribly intrusive.

Typical bland industrial German Pilsener. Slightly grainy, insistent, flat bitterness. Boring.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clear light gold, fairly good head/retention, soapy lace light. Tallboy can.Mealy grainy aroma with tart lemon and floral.Distict pilsner malt aroma. Slight rubbery yeast. Taste like a solid pilsner with german malt character, light lemony tartness, beery light sweetness, foamy light mouthfeel. Enjoyable pilsener.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 11/20
Innocuous looking German pilsener without the fluffy white head I had expected and desired. Aromas of innocuous German pilsener that doesn’t pretend to be anything but quaffing beer. Therein lies its beauty because its flavour is innocuous, German and pilsener-y. Perfect for quaffing, perfect for me ticking the box and moving on toward my next beer, that will be my 2,000th rating. So I say goodbye and good luck to Wolters Innocuous German Pilsener.

I think I’ve learned my lesson: any beer that proudly announces how it is brewed according to the German purity law is most likely gonna taste like low-grade slosh. And this is no exception, although at least it assertive! Huzzah! Have at you, you knave! , but it’s coppery metallicness sets my teeth on edge. Flavours of sweet green apples mixed with lime and, oh, what a surprise, corny vegetable oil at the back. Maybe if they gave the finger to the bullshit purity law they could brew a decent beer?
